Hey guys,

I'm trying to render a scene. When I'm working with the Live Viewer, it loads relatively quickly (< 1 min). No problem. When I go to render it, it's just stuck at updating forever... and then Windows reports "Cinema 4D has stopped working.... a problem occurred."

Details:

2.6 million polys (using lots of trees and shrubs, volume fog)
Path Tracing
Cinema 4D r17
Octane Render plugin 3.05-Test4.1

System:

Windows 10
4x GTX 1080
32 gb system RAM

Anything I should try? Do I have too many polys? I didn't want to start deleting various objects.... but from what I read, it should be fine on my system.

Thanks!

Hey, thanks for replying!

Ok, just read it. So more geometry is likely getting created in the picture viewer. I have many parametric trees - so I guess this is the big issue.

But does 2.5 million polys sound like too much? My cards have 8gb each. It says max triangles.... but if I say cut them in half, into triangles ;) hahah... that's like 5 million (I sounds like retard sorry.... no idea how that part works).

I just created a very dumbed down file and it works.... I wish I had some number to know what is too much and not have to trial and error until my software stops crashing :( Is there any way?

I converted all parametric objects to polys and it appears to have solved the problem - Octane didn't like the parametrics on those trees..... my scene now has 3 million polys, but renders out!

Thanks for looking at this again!

You understand wrong apparently. I afraid to see wrong words are spreading. Please! That's not about Octane don't love somethings, etc.. It loves everythings if you love. It just about different polygon counts. It worked on you because you've fixed polygon counts by converting to polygon. As document says that LV vs. PV is like Editor/Render. Different counts of triangles, hairs, etc.. on PV and hitted to wall of VRAM or renderer. So making same parameters as in image will fix same triangle counts.

Ok, I thought I understood.

Live viewer displays the mesh that's meant for the live preview, as you showed in your screenshot with the subdivision object - 2 vs 4. I didn't have any of those objects, only parametric trees, which I didn't see something like that... a little like a parametric sphere, cube, etc. Perhaps at render time something gets converted, and does like the subdivision object, but it's opaque to me (or it's buried somewhere in the settings of the object). I'll check it out.... but I agree - 9.5 times out of 10, it's my lack of knowledge the problem. :)

Thanks for the help and thanks for all the hard work on this plugin - it's quite amazing to have you around.
