Hey folks
I'm doing some dust particles for a project. The particles are done i X-Particles. They have a glossy material on them, with film width to get the color variation.
Now, the render gets pretty noisy in the areas with DOF. I've tried increasing the samples to ridiculous amounts, but its still there, so guess I need to optimize somewhere else?
Hope you can help!

Try increasing path term power. Also, multiply your light source by ten, then lower the exposure of the camera by same factor.

i tried and did a setup similar to yours.
would be interesting to know about your lighting setup.
my try with just one not so big area light led to extreme noise.
abother try with a huge area light that shines over the whole particle scene cleared eveything very quickly.
the fastest way, though, was to not use any are light, but to use an environment tag set to type "visible environment", while reflections being activated.
since you are using a glossy material for the particles that should do the trick. did it here, very fast.
