No worries & Thanks.
The size of the light and the position is also key. It's mostly best to keep the slightly light above the center of screen. Because it will make the stick shadows seen downward without interference to sceen. And the light should not be far from screen. The puppets position to the screen is also important.
Don't know much about Chinese version of it. we Turks must have adopted from them centuries ago.
Take a look at the images below. Gives much sense how it's done in life.

Can't share my scene mate. :)

But can walk you through the process.
Puppets, specular, 0 reflection, transmission by texture, ior 1, fake shadow ( or just diffuse mat. it they are going to be like your examples.)
Screen, diffuse material with transmmision with some value or texture.
A lamp with decent size and power.
That is it.
