I have been using the latest v2 plugin for a while now. It partly is ok but two things are most annoying:

1) Major one: Bad Material Browser / editor (really slow, no search function, why only online?)
2) Sometimes it is hard to keep exactly the same view (despite namedViews etc.). It seems to depend on the interface of rhino?

Have people seen any improvements in the new v3 plugin? Is it worth the upgrade? :geek:

Are you referring to the Rhino material browser? This is a Rhino function, and unrelated to the Octane plugin.

A fix for an issue similar to this was put through in a recent version of the Octane 3 version of the plugin.

Thanks for your reply. I'm talking about the LiveDB browser.

The LiveDb is on-line only - so it's speed will depend on your internet connection. Octane will cache the LiveDb materials that have been downloaded, so they can be loaded instantly.

Thanks for your reply's. You must admit that the liveDB material browser is below average compared to other render suits. Or do you think this is the best thinkable interface for a material browser?

See attachment.:

- funny material names.
- no search..
- I have a fast interent connection. But still the material preview has a slight delay. And as there is no search function, I have to go trough the whole list of funny material names every time. And every materials has to be loaded, so all in all, that gets pretty slow..

See attached image too.

Those are blank material names. You can see them in the Octane Standalone LiveDb browser too.

Yes but is the interface improved in Rhino in de V3 plugin?

Because I'm not going to:
- start op octane standalone,
-load the materials one by one,
-see if I like them, link the names to the list in Rhino by going down the list with my arrow button,
-and then again a few times if I don't like it.

A search version and fixed preview images by the materials would greatly speed up and improve the process.

I can't seem to get an answer.

I am sorry, but neither OctaneRender for Rhino nor Octane Standalone contain a search function for the LiveDB.

Is there any improvement with the LiveDB since our last chat? Search / faster preview ? (i do have a very fast internet connection and pc.. so I don't know why preview is so slow,)

Can I find a screenshot of the latest version 3 plugin somewhere to compare it with version 2?

Thank you!

The LiveDb is unchanged.

If you do not already have the OctaneRender for Rhino plugin installed, may I suggest running the Octane 3 DEMO version of the plugin, which will allow you to see all the latest changes. To get an idea of what has changed since Octane 2, pls see the release notes at viewtopic.php?f=41&t=55093. If you have the Octane 2 version of the plugin installed, then do not install the Octane 3 DEMO, since it may install over your Octane 2 version.

Thanks
