Hi,
I saw this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3lhmsYNM4c - and when I try to do the same I get 2gb of memory used with 3.7 million polygons. Just duplicating instances.
I have one gtx 980ti and one 680 = 4gb of memory. Please someone can help me? I am using the last version of the plugin.
Thanks

Hi, I don't do a test for this, but it seems that the last versions are more memory hungry than before when using instances.

Hi Tharso,
the instance command and proxy make small files saved and reduce the polygons in the scene.
As you can see in the screenshots the proxy significantly reduces the amount of polygons and istance do not increase the file size.
your issue may be related to other factors.
A - If you are using Windows 10, it eats ram more than window 7
B - I would advise you to connect the nvidia 680 to monitor and not use it for Octane
C - install Octane 3.04 and octane 3dsmax plugin 4:21 because an issue with the proxy has been resolved
I hope I was helpful
let me know about the issue

Yess !! Thats it..coilbook wrote:I think you should rightclick go to octane properties and select movable proxy. Then you can clone with instance without increasing memory.
Thank you !

@Tharso
what is the equivalent command in Modo?
Were you not aware of this feature in 3dsMax?
therefore any change in the scene, you used the command "update render geometry"?

Why do we need to do this "movable proxy step" surely you will always want a proxy to be an instance? Seems like such a useless step to me. Also every time I import a proxy (no matter which way I save it, it crashes max every time). Why is this comparatively simple and vital function (instances) so completely useless in octane? Aaaargh! Plus no-one ever answers on this forum. Infuriating. So much for customer service.
