I dug a little deeper into the object properties and found this on the objects you had created:

octane_movable_proxy = True
octane_object_motion_blur = False
octane_vertex_motion_blur = False
octane_motion_blur_samples = 2
octane_layer_ID = 1

When I copied and pasted that into the sphere I created (which didn't have this), now suddenly my sphere is behaving the way it should when mirrored. It also behaves correctly in the viewport, i.e. it updates live.

So my question is, how did these custom properties become applied to your spheres? Did you manually add them, or is there a setting somewhere that I don't know about?... If you remove these properties do you experience any issues when mirroring your spheres?

Thanks.

Hi Chris_RSI,
It is not necessary to make refresh every time you make a change.
To do this Right-click mouse > select "octane properties" > then select "movable proxy"
close window
refresh OctaneRender Viewport
and that's it.

"Octane Properties" seems to have disappeared.

Hi, Chris_RSI
This fact is rather unique ..
I'll recommend you to re-install octane SA and 3ds max plugin.
I have no other ideas about that.
let me know about this.

Agreed, I removed and then reinstalled Octane, and now I have Octane Properties in the menu fly out again.

What I take away from all of this, is that if I want to mirror objects that are set up as lights, I need to set them as movable proxies first, otherwise it just doesn't work.

Hi Chris_RSI,
I did another test about this.
I did not get your issue.
I attach a sample file with a mirror without activating movable proxy.
Try it.

I really think it was something to do with my particular installation. I have since upgraded to Max 2017 and Octane V3, no more issues.

Thanks for troubleshooting with me, I appreciate it!
