I have been trying to run a smoke animation and the plugin keeps erroring out. This happens with version 10.2 and 10.4 of the plugin.

the server says:

Code: Select all

jason@gemong ~/graphics/blender-octane $ Octane Engine v. 10.4

Octane: Starting Octane engine...
Octane: ...started
Octane: Activating license...
Octane: ...activated
Octane: LiveDB cache refresh started...
Octane: LiveDB cache refresh complete
Octane: unknown ERROR: 25
Octane: unknown ERROR: 26
Octane: unknown ERROR: 22
Octane: unknown ERROR: 19
Octane: unknown ERROR: 20
Octane: unknown ERROR: 10
Blender says:

Code: Select all

Octane: ERROR loading environment.
Octane: ERROR loading visible environment.
Octane: ERROR loading camera.
Octane: ERROR loading render passes.
Octane: ERROR loading kernel.
Octane: ERROR starting render.
Blender just sits there and nothing happens after the errors. I can still use Blender and run renders and other functions. Only when I try to render an animation does the plugin have issues. I also tried to start the animation at different frames to see if it was a problem with the first frame, but no difference.

Thanks,

Jason

Thanks Jimstar, that works. Unfortunately there must be a memory leak, as I can only get about 8 or 9 images rendered of the animation and then I run out of memory (this is with 32 Gbytes). Also sometimes the VDB cache is not loaded correctly, it comes in squished and/or translated oddly especially when loading a blend file with a pre-made smoke cache. I have had to re-bake the simulation to get it to work right. It looks ok when I play it in Blender (without rendering in Octane).

I had no problems with memory on my test scenes... Could you share the scene where you have this issue?..

One more thing you can check so far. Try to set the animation mode to "Movable proxies" and all objects to "Reshapable" type (just use type override button next to render buttons). Do you still see the leak in this mode?..

Hi Jim. I too am getting memory errors while attempting to render a smoke animation on Mac with the Octane Blender 10.5 version.

I get about 90 - 110 frames into an animation when OS X pops up an error that reads "Your system has run out of application memory. To avoid problems with your computer, quit any applications you are not using."

I have 32 GB RAM in my system.

The first time this happened I was also running After Effects and thought that might have contributed to the issue. But the second time I was running no other programs except my web browser.

I will try again switching the proxy modes per your last post to see if that helps.

Even with animation mode set to "Movable proxies" and all objects to "Reshapable" I still got the out of memory error - this time after only 70 frames.

What about my question to give me this scene?..

Ok - attached is my Blend file. I will also initiate another render with logging on to see if that shows anything useful.
