Hi all,
I have an animation (with many many polygons) that has an issue with batch render in Maya: if I render the scene with IPR, everything works good and it's also pretty fast (just 2-3 minutes per frame).
If I launch the batch render, it goes on for hours just for the first frame, saying 0% forever, then 1% forever, etc...
Also, I tried to render from command line, and I get an enormous list of warnings (probably one for every object in the scene) saying:
Warning: Octane: Wrong UV data in object: "_Uscita_Stampanti_13:polySurfaceShape443 (UV set "map1"): U-values cnt: 0, V-values cnt: 0, UV-indices cnt: 0
When I render from command line, it just goes with this big list of warning, and then does nothing for a while, and then the long list again (the same). Nothing happens, no image file of any kind is written in the project path, nothing.
What's wrong with that? What am I doing wrong?
Thanks!
p.s.: I'm using Maya 2016, last stable version of the plugin, and I have a dual Xeon with 24gb RAM, 1 Nvidia GTX970 4Gb.
Batch Render in Maya doesn't work as expected...

Can be the same probem you had before when all your objects were using the "Global" geometry type.
For batch rendering animation you may have to do one thing more :
Try to put the "animation mode" to "movable proxy" in render settings,
else if you let it to "full" all geometry is exported every frame, and doesn't respect geometry types.
if this s not the problem there a lot of other possibe issue
- objects with no UV can obstruct batch render
- motion blur, too much issue possible to list them
- render file path have a bug if you use dots in names or if you use sudirectory with Maya token, batch render doesn't work.

I am afraid to say that all the objects in the scene are set to movable proxy...
Any other idea?

yes I know but you must put "animaton mode" to "movable proxy", this is not an object attribute, this is an option in render setting.vegansushi wrote:I am afraid to say that all the objects in the scene are set to movable proxy...

Sorry, I am panicking because I have a very tight deadline for this animation and I can't manage to get it to work...calus wrote:

I just read the full message.
- I noticed that for some reason, some mesh is without UV (never experience that!) so I tried to do a huge planar mapping on everything to see what happens. Now of course it will take forever so it's stuck.
- No dots on the project name or path (what do you mean by Maya token btw?)
- I will try the animation movable proxy thing as soon as it allows me to do it (it will be probably stuck for hours to set a planar mapping of 16000+ mesh)
- I switched off the motion blur but nothing changed (at least INSIDE maya, I will also try from command line)
Thanks a lot and sorry for missing the final part of your message!
I'll let you know what happens.
You should have tried first to change the "animation mode" in render setting, I guess this is your problem...vegansushi wrote: - I noticed that for some reason, some mesh is without UV (never experience that!) so I tried to do a huge planar mapping on everytnhig to see what happens. if you have several objects with the same name you should use this option in render setting: Else batch render is stuck.
If your issue is still not solved, don't panick,
I still can help if you share a sample of your scene where you have deleted most of the objects.
By the way Maya token is about this:

Thanks for your Precious help, I really appreciate.
So it Came out I am using the default token, <scene name>, so I guess this is the other major issue.
Tomorrow I will try to fix what you Say, thanks a lot again for the help.
About the unique name thing, I didn't know there was an automation so I changed hundreds of names by hand

So changing the "animation mode" to "movable proxies" doesn't solve your issue ?
I was sure it was the problem because your batch render is not stuck but only very long to render each frame,
instead of 2mn/frame as it should (like with IPR).
Maya token doesn't work only when using folders in the path so I don't think it's your problem (default works !)

No wait, I didn't not have the chance to try movable proxy yet because I had to get back home, it still might be the solution. I'll let you know tomorrow morning
Many Maya users have been running into the same problem and the support Otoy gives in this case is poor.
The problem was reported often.
For example here:
viewtopic.php?f=28&t=55348&p=285171#p285171
and here:
viewtopic.php?f=28&t=54983&p=283293#p283293
and so on.
Thank you Calus that you are willing to help. That is amazing and really appreciated by us Maya/Octane users.
Vegansushi, please send the scene to Kai and Calus via PM if you are able to share it (maybe a portion of it that is not top secret).
Kai, please produce constant updates and bug fixes for the 2.X Maya version including Maya 2017 support.
V3 is not even in beta, so we nead something, at least basic to work with.
If anybody has a cure to this problem, please help. I tried to normalize the UVs of all objects which didn't work for me.
