Hello,

I haven't been able to output a vector pass for any scene I tried. (eg. Simple moving sphere) All I get is a grey image.

Could someone please tell me how to make it work ?

Thanks.

Second this - is it broken or are we missing some magic setting?

The motion vector pass can contain negative values, which means that it only makes sense to export it in OpenEXR format. Have you tried this and inspected the values because I guess negative values will be displayed as gray.

cheers,

You need the motion vector data to be assigned to a mesh (using standard Maya's way) to get it rendered.

Does someone mind explaining how to assign motion vectors in Maya? I've always done it through Mental Ray shaders and as much as I Google I can't stumble across any standard method...

So I'm guessing the silence means no one else knows how to do it outside of mental ray either...?

Mesh converted from liquids such as realflow or maya bifrost get it, other than that I couldn't find any info either.

So has anyone ever figured this one out?
This old thread was never got with satisfactory answer.
What exactly do we have to do to get a motion vector pass out of Octane and what will it work with?
I also only ever get flat mid-grey renders.
ie. - is the motion vector data compatible with RSMB or other motion blur plugins for post?
