"Production ready", heh it's a phenomenal word. We used Octane for lot of production since 1.x. I can't agree with this term or i don't get that. Maybe we need another word for that. It's loaded with many many features to do productions at unbeatable speed and we call it "non-production ready". This is my thoughts about that word, sorry. But i agree with this feature is important and absolutely required. Also as you said that most of my time is spent by answers to people. Not good and steal my development times. Maybe some of due lack of Otoy answers but some of due users who don't spent time to read manual, forum, tutorials. Also don't spend time for trial-errors on features.creaturechaffe wrote:Thanks for the reply,
I'd like to keep this positive - your work is hugely appreciated - I'm just keen to know some kind of roadmap as support for vertex maps is what i would call 'production ready' which is what I thought V3 was all about.
With respect I am a C4D user - I have no practical use for standalone even if the core of Octane is dependent on it.
I think what everyone is experiencing with Otoy right now is a real lack of clear communication. All people want is clear communication and to feel that feature requests can be made officially not just lost on a forum comment.
Right now I don't think the C4D users have any idea what the 'to do' list is or priorities for additional support e.g. vertex maps.
I think people are getting a bit disillusioned with what 'Octane 3' means. I'd bet that most peoples perception is that Standalone v3 features (cartoon shading) for instance would be ready at the same time in the C4D plugin. I think it's not clear enough what we can expect and in what timeframes. Nobody wants to see a situation develop where V4 has all the cool new features and V4 for C4D is lagging behind (e.g. Vray for C4D).
Truly appreciate your hard work Aoktar - I'd rather you were able to focus on development rather than answering questions here - Otoy really needs to improve communication with customers - I'm sure you have enough on your plate.
At the and what's very critical missing features for you? I can't see much else of a shading language, vertexmaps, scatter colors, more ray-switchs. Rests are bonus i suppose.
