Flat colored background without casting illumination?
Moderators: ChrisHekman, aoktar
Is there any way I can just create a simple plain background without it illuminating the scene and without having to render separate passes? I have a scene where the environment is set to pure black. It looks fine with Alpha channel enabled, but as soon as I try to create a white background, it starts to receive GI. I'm wondering if I could just create a colored background without it casting light.

ou could render the scene with Yan alpha channel and put the BG in in post.

I've tried this but the alpha background keeps showing up. Octane just completely ignores the C4D background object.Ibycus wrote:You can add a C4D background object, then put a C4D material on that background, add color to the texture spot under diffuse, and select alpha channel in the Kernel in octane settings.
what do you get exactly? Affecting the reflections but no illumination by back?elihu252 wrote:I understand that. For my purposes, that isn't helpful. Thanks for the reply aoktar. What I want is a simple, pure flat background inside of Octane (as if I got to use a custom color instead of the alpha checkerboard pattern).aoktar wrote:what do you get exactly? A C4D background object simply does nothing in Octane live preview. Nothing shows up at all with or without the Alpha channel checked.
EDIT: Oh my god, I just figured it out. I needed to use the Octane RGBSpectrum for the texture in the color channel. Before, I was just using the C4D color channel and nothing was happening, whoops. Thanks for the support though!
