Re internet connection

This is false. There were terms and conditions that Customers accept when they buy a licence. Nowhere in his website did Radiance tell that the hardwire requirement was and will be an internet connexion.
Terms and conditions cannot be changed such a drastic way by the owner till after version 1. There are laws here in Europe that forbid such things.

The terms and conditions can be changed on a newer version and the user choose if accept or not, so... what's happen if tomorrow Radiance decidea to release the 1.0 vesion? You can keep using that versión forever without an internet connection, but you must accept the terms and conditions if you want to upgrade.

I want to say, the Octane team are working to give the best to te user, otherside we can REQUIRE no changes on the anti-piracy system, and see how our beloved render engine dies irremediably.

I agree with that from a purely technical point of view in best case, but the point of view of the clients is that I cannot certify that at any time for any reason a failure will not occur resetting or altering the parameters of the router and leaving everything pass by.

thank you for this minute of psychology, but this long post doesn't help at all, and as english is not my native language such long posts are rather tedious to read. We are some people here searching solution to a really annoying problem disturbing our workflow.

What we need is technical help, not psychological advices.

As a starving artist investing each saved cent in my tools to work better and enhance my chances of finding jobs, even if I like jokes a lot, I'm currently not in the mood for this kind of "help".

In case of a problem of Confidentiality breach, and even if it isn't due to the hardware, I wouldn't be able to proof it. And as you say yourself below, The perfect isolated system doesn't exist, so you admit that the harware can have failures too.

I case of physical robbery, I can proof that I have taken all precautions (burglar alarm, safe for client documents and hard disks) and in the worse case I have an insurance.

In case of piracy through the internet, proofs are really difficult to establish and my insurance doesn't cover this kind of risk.

No! Radiance told all that need to be done before final version comes out. He would have hard time to prove that Octane is mature in the actual state (at least without MLT for example) as we say in French "les paroles s'envolent mais les écrits restent"

The sudden requirement of an internet connexion is not an improvement of the software but a change in the original terms and hardware requirements which is completely different.

I think you don't understand my point of view, the Octane team can call a new version with the numbers he want ie: Octane v.8.3 and you can't say: "Hey you jumped some numbers!!"

I agree that this might happen, however agaisnt that I take care of always checking each mobile data support with an up-to-date antivirus (updated several times a day) on the machine used to connect to the internet, before transferring necessary files on my workstation.

This said, bad luck is bad luck and no tool is perfect, but I do my best to protect data.

Is it really so important to use Octane for the super-secret work you're doing?

Why not take all the confidential files off your computer before you set up the router,
practice setting it up a few times, then have your client come over and watch you
do the final setup, and show them how secure it is, and then put the confidential files
back on it?

If fact, why not just take all confidential files off your computer every day, as soon as you
are done working? And then put them back on in the morning when you start to work again.
For such super-paranoid clients, wouldn't that help? In fact, why not just keep all the
work on an external hard drive or two, which you hook up to the computer during work hours,
and put them in a safe the rest of the time?

It seems weird to me that any company wiht such super-secret work would
even allow it off the premises of their company, but I'm told it does happen.

Would that take care of the problem of lack of security during setup?

PS: that would seem to be a more secure way to do things, even with
no internet connection.

I already use removable hard disks and put them in a safe when they are not in use (imposed by the client and insurance as well as the burglar alarm), but I don't understand how I could work and render without the disks in the machine ! Even if I plug external drives after opening the internet connection, it doesn't change the point of view of the client.

If I had plenty of artistic works not requiring secrecy, all these things would have less importance, but the only and rare market around here for CG works so far is prototypes visualisations for hightech industries, and they are untreatable about security.

Please, stop saying what my clients should do. I don't master what they want, and if they have such security politic it is their right.

You are not my client, and if you knew well people managing big companies, you would understand more my situation. They are not patient at all, and if they came home one time to inspect my studio, it was the first and last time. They can have the job done in many places around here. The last thing I heard from them is something like "don't bother us with such arguments, we have no time for that. You know the condition stated initially. If you can't comply..." you know what it means.

As said before, I have put a lot of efforts and money in advertising, and despite these efforts, I have had no new customers for around 2 years, so you should understand that I have no other choice than trying to serve them at the best of my possibilities.

And Yes Octane is important for me because it is the only affordable, fast, easy to use realistic render I can use with Blender. Some months ago, I planned to purchased Lightwave which is a full 3D package with a good render engine, but at this time I discovered Octane, and instead of putting my savings in Lightwave, I put my confidence in Octane and began to invest a lot in hardware to use it. So yes Octane is a very important tool for me, and the simplest way to improve my images quality without having to learn an other complete 3D package that I don't really need except the render !
