Hi Radiance and all,
I am sorry to bring this up but I feel that all has not been said.....

First off Did you warn your customers and potential customers of this internet connection idea ? ( I have not had time to scour every last inche of your site for the answer ) If I had known about it I certainly wouldn't have bought a license from you. That's because I use (like many others I know) a dedicated pc using Softimage on Windows. I never connect to the internet using Windows because I don't want even the smallest problem and or the horrible Window's notification, warning and other security issues/proceedures. Instead I connect via a macbook and linux box which have no issues/problems. And more importantly I don't have a regular internet connection at home !

Second Couldn't you develope a hardware key(dongle) or some other anti piracy method with all that money we have given you ?

Third Piracy has to be accounted for nowadays...it's just a fact of life.

Fourth I don't want to be tied down to working in a place with an internet connection as my work takes me on and off location and in studios and sound stages where it would be the kiss of death.

Fifth Can I have my money back ?

Sixth Just imagine if you want to visit a client and show them real fast a prototype/idea/Viz e.t.c. and be indipendant of their internet connection.

OK I am being blunt but is there any other alternative....Let's just say that I really hope there is, as I really like your product and admire your programming skills !

Hoping for a solution and your understanding,
Very best

Hi,

Pleas stop responding, i closed the topic.
we're working round the clock to get 2.3 out and we need some al our time dedicated to it.

You can add a cheap TP-LINK etherner router between your network connection and your FGFX workstation,
and deny all in & out, and only allow outgoing HTTPS for octane to our live servers.

I would appreciate it if we can just leave the discussion as it is until the intermediate 2.3 comes out,
as a lot of people here don't know what we're doing and think we'le just adding a new , harder copy protection system which is not what we're doing.

hey, dongles cost money, need to be shipped world wide, and are not possible at 99 euros per beta license.
and they get cracked too... our system won't be able to be cracked as it's a completely different concept.

Ok Radiance,
but what do I do ? Leave all of my work until you've finished yours ?
Ok I'll wait but I need a solution even if it's another software...

Please consider the long term and probably quite a large part of your customers..

well, offcourse we do. our customers pay for licenses and that money allows us to have our salaries.
I'm not going to destroy this baby i've worked on for nearly 9 months, so you can trust me that i won't leave people in the cold.

Just wait and see what 2.3 intermediate release will bring and i'm sure many people that complain will change they're opinions when they see the new functionalities in it.

I don't want to start again this discussion, but you already said that several times, and what I think is that whatever will be the marvelous tools included in the 2.3, if Internet is required to use them, you will leave on se side of the road people who don't have a full time connection (I don't mean a slow connection, but a connection that is not available when you need it (How many times I have had to upload something important and encountered a FAI failure !) or require mobility. And these marvelous tools those people will see them through the images made by other artists !

As most of us already have invested a lot in harware (GPU,Cubix,64 bit oOS, more Ram...) you are expecting that every one will continue to modify his harware and working methods to match Octane requirements... but at some point, and espescially when it touches at safety protocols or external constraints (bad internet connections, problem of mobility, clients requirements) it reaches users limits and for some of us, and mostly for people using Octane as a professional tool, it will not be possible or very difficult and source of potential troubles.

There is no doubt that Octane is a great software and there is no doubt that 2.3 will bring even greatest features, but I am quite sure that regular registered users will suffer much more than pirates of this system, because pirates haven't invested a single cent !

Most of that has already been said, but I had to insist on the fact that promising wonderful features in a software that not everyone will be able to use doesn't look logical in my humble opinion.

Sorry !

Who use a beta software as a tool to make money?
Who use a car with 3 wheels to make a tour?

Sorry to say that so hard, but i don´t understand it...

When Octane will have a future, we need the step Refractive will go.
The Refractive team has spend much time and we plugin developers too.

Please let this wonderfull piece of software live and maybe the step we go is the best.

Wait und see...

ps.
My statement to the money back.
I think many users have spend much more money in useless things with less fun ;)

I will give the new system a chance.

First off face, have you never used beta software professionally ? Well I have if and when it works well enough to serve a purpose - just look at the wonderful results obtained thus far in the stills and animation gallery.

Did Refracive software warn us about the need for a connection...? No...that is why I have invested time and extra hardware in it.

What other software ties you down to an internet connection in the world of 3D....very little if any, so I can't see why I would have to change my entire system and/or approach.

The money back statement is because I simply can't use it in this way even though I really like the results I have worked to get....

Please understand
