Hi Paul,

Could you please help me?

My Octane plugin for Rhino would not install when I opened Rhino 5 this afternoon (I've been using it with no problem before).

I've never encountered an issue before. (I was working in Octane standalone 3 beta 2 prior to opening).

I was using Octane 2_24_2_54 when it quit working, and then re-installed Octane for Rhino 2_25_0_64.

I'm on Windows 10. I also have Octane stand alones 2.24.2 and 3 beta 2 installed.

I've attached a screenshot for additional reference.

Many thanks for any assistance, I am in a bind.

Nathan

Hi - I haven't seen this problem before.

Firstly, make sure you have uninstall the old version of the plugin that you would have installed via the old installer (as opposed to the rhi installer). To ensure this old version is uninstalled, make sure C:\Program Files\Otoy\OctaneRender for Rhino5 is empty.

If you have been running Octane Standalone beta 2, they perhaps there has been a licensing issue. So it would be worth installing and trying the latest Octane 3 version of the plugin from viewtopic.php?f=41&t=42587.

Hi Paul,

The old installer was not there (nor was there even a folder for "Octane Render for Rhino 5"--newer computer, so probably never had the old installer.)

I installed the latest Octane 3 plugin, and still the same error.

The Octane 2 plugins (and Octane 3) can still be found in the "common files" within the "Octane Render for Rhino" plugin folder, just fyi.

Any other thoughts?

Thank you!

What folders to you have in C:\Program Files\Common Files\McNeel\Rhinoceros\5.0\Plug-ins? Perhaps there are multiple copies of the plugin conflicting.

What SR and build number of Rhino are you using?

What does Rhino->Tools->Options->Plugins show for the OctaneRenderForRhino plugin? If you click the Properties button for that plugin, what is displayed?

Thanks

Even with the one initial folder: 2.24.2,54, the plugin quit loading when I tried to use it today.

Now, I also have the 2.25.0.64 & 3.0.10.64 folders.

No Octane plugin even appears in Rhino-tools-options-plugins. The plugin isn't loading at all when Rhino is started (but I get the afore-mentioned error message when starting Rhino).

Many thanks thus far!
Nathan

I have never seen this problem before.

Something must have changed on your system to cause the issue (a Rhino update, Nvidia driver update, hardware change, plugin update). The error message is indicating the plugin was compiled on an incompatible version of Rhino. I am on Rhino 5.12.50810.13095 (so that is the minimum version of Rhino that you need in order to run the plugin).

Try deleting all the Octane folders from C:\Program Files\Common Files\McNeel\Rhinoceros\5.0\Plug-ins, then install the latest 2.25 version. If that does not resolve the issue, try re-installing Rhino SR12.

Also - install Nvidia driver 358.50 to discount some sort of Nvdida driver issue.

Paul,

Thank you so very much for your help.

I followed all your suggestions, including a clean reinstall of Rhino 5 and I was still encountering the error.

What I found, that somewhere in my middle-aged madness, I had managed to "hide" my user folders in my C drive....ughhhhh...so after unhiding the folder almost everything appears to now work properly...

A portion of my livelihood depends upon Rhino and your Octane plugin and I am deeply grateful for your help.

I have one last question (I hope): the Octane plugin cannot find textures of earlier files per the message: "you do not have read access to a folder within the texturemaps search path. Unable to complete search".

Is there one folder location that you can point me to, where the Octane plugin contains the saved files and textures?

Much relief and much gratitude for your kind assistance,

Nathan

EDIT: Disregard question above--just relinking textures as needed...
