Hi,
I had a look to see what the hardware difference between a GTS250M and a GTS260M is and it appears they are the same except the 250 is clocked 10% slower and uses slower GDDR3 rather than 5.
Really I dont know why the 250 isnt in there with the 260..

did you go here? 195.62 is the latest and is cuda enabled.

Interesting. Well the 250 comes standard with most the new i7 laptops.
I know only one model with the 260. And that has been getting mixed reviews
for other problems. so the 250 is much more in production.

also,

will that driver really make a difference. Cuda already reads enabled.
I thought the requirement for Octane, was that DEVELOPERS driver?

thanks

Oh,

I should add, octane, says no cuda found.
That other Cuda testing app found it fine, I think.

Well I think CUDA-Z looks for cuda compatible hardware rather than the cuda driver.
I am thinking that the driver might have installed but not with cuda components or maybe missing some, hence Octane doesnt find it.
There are lists included with the drivers that tell it what components to install for a particular card.
If your card isnt on the list it may not install at all.
This is what the mod the guy is doing is about, listing your hardware.
The 190.38 may not list your card either. We already know there is a scarcity of drivers for it.
Honestly I am not sure but this is my best guess.
If you want to persist with this I'd say contact that forum with your details and see if he will mod it for you so you can try 196.52.
Other than that you are probably going to have to wait for another official driver to come out.
I cant answer for @radiance as to why he requires that particular driver - probably he has used it while he develops Octane and feels it will give fewer bugs - and I am not in a position to comment on if there is a technical issue with Octane not detecting cuda in some cases if that is the case.

HTH -doing my best ;)
