Hello,

I Cant get alpha to work! I get an error NO CUDA CAPABLE DEVICES FOUND.

I have the GTS - 250m card, should be cuda enabled, right? what driver do I need?
you said to try these drivers: { below }

I guess Beta Notebook Driver for Developers (190.38) would be the driver I need
correct? Will that work? Where IS An exact LINK TO THIS DRIVER please? I can't
find this. { I am using win7 64 bit }

thank you.

This release requires the any of the following Cuda/Video Drivers to be installed:
* CUDA Driver: NVIDIA Driver 190.38 for Windows XP 32-bit with CUDA Support
* CUDA Driver: NVIDIA Driver 190.38 for Windows XP 64-bit with CUDA Support
* Beta Notebook Driver for Developers (190.38)

I would think it is the driver not the 'device'.

For the beta notebook driver go to this page http://www.nvidia.com/object/cuda_get.html
and 'choose your O/S'..

It seems to be 185.85 for cuda2.2 ???
which driver do you have presently?

You might want to consult @radiance about this driver first though to see if this is suitable for your specific card and Octane.
Checking the nvidia archive for notebook drivers I didnt actually find one listed for the GTS250m, the 260m yes, 250 no..
Is a vendor (Dell, HP, etc) specific driver needed I wonder?..

Please dont proceed or mess around if you arent certain what to use.

thanks you MEAN 185.85 for cuda2.2 ???

should I INSTALL THESE 3?

CUDA Driver: NVIDIA Driver for Windows 7 (64-bit) 185.85 with CUDA Support
NVIDIA Notebook Driver for Windows 7 (64-bit) 185.85
CUDA Toolkit: CUDA Toolkit 2.2 for Windows 7 (64-bit)
Release Notes, Programming Guide, Profiler README, License
CUDA SDK: CUDA SDK 2.2.1 code samples for Windows 7 (64-bit)

I ALREADY TRIED THIS

CUDA Driver: NVIDIA Driver 190.38 for Windows 7 (64-bit) with CUDA Support

and it wont install.

...........................THANKS yeah, I dont understand this.

.......................I know this is perplexing. I have the vendor driver dated sep. .
Nvidia has driver update for EVERYTHING but the 250m.

One person has POSTED A HACK on the nividia site to get the newest driver to work
on gts-250m / yep. Huh? ? Is nvidia asleep or what?

But I cant get the hack to install!

Hi,

I just checked and apparently they don't supply a notebook cuda 2.3 driver for windows 7 64bit.
maybe they are still making it and it will appear at a later date?

If octane does'nt work with the 2.2 driver that's available,
i can't help you further...
you'll have to have a bit of patience until one becomes available from nvidia.

Yes I think it might be a good idea to hold off for the moment.
Given the lack of drivers for the card anyway cuda seems to be dubious proposition at this time as well.
I suspect you will run into problems if you try to use unsupported drivers and you also dont want to mess up your install.
There is a nvidia driver cleaner at guru3d.com if you need it.
Perhaps if you are still keen to try Octane you have another pc or a friend's can be hijacked for an evening or afternoon. :)

thanks pixel,

I think I will hold off for a bit.

I recently installed RIVA TUNER. I cant even remember why - lol. But something to
do with testing a virtual HI END, whats the name of it .......... video card.

I realized it might be a mistake, just the second after I pressed install. luckily nothing
bad happened, and i just decided to uninstall it.

what worries me is EDWIN Ks report though. Hes running a FAST video card, blazing
fast it seems, . Mine is BRAND new. and maybe slightly more advanced than his,
but not by much.

If his cant handle OCTANE, i dont know what?

I need to contact some people at nvidia tomorrow and i'll pass the message that some people are asking for the notebook driver.
That's all i can do...
