No chance...
For 5000 particles/strands, you must create 5000 materials.
I think you will have fun to set they up in Octane ;)
And a other thing is, i don´t know how many materials Octane can handle.
One solution is to bake the color in a texturemap, but so long Octane filter the textures, it doesn´t work correct...

Oh, this wasn't a request or anything. I just wondered how you made your strands multi-colored in the last video you posted?

A bended smooth shaded sphere...
It was a hard work to calculate the smoothed normels per hand ;)

Very nice..
I've been working with ICE quite a bit, but I've never tried out strands. It's time to look into this stuff I think.

this images are really neat, they look like a lot of fun, one of this days I have to sit in front of blender and not get up till I can model a simple cube, that'll be a start.
Congrats mate

Thanks ;)
Mabye i have a solution to solve the color problem...
The colorcube below is made with the 3 2x2px textures and a little bit work on the uv-coordinates.
I think, i can use that to give every particle a other color.
First i must calculate on wich of the tree texture lies the color. After that i can calculate the position on the texture to become the right color and uv-coordinate.
