I didn't read this thread completely so I don't know if this is a bug or happens just here on my computer. Is there a workaround for this?
Make sure Preferences->Load Octane Materials From .Duf Presets is ticked.
I have no idea why this option exists. Do people mind if I remove it?

The option exists so we can
load a scene without any of the OctaneRender material information saved with the .duf.
Basically this option makes it possible to reload scenes that for some reason contain corrupted or outdated OctaneRender information.
This option is also useful to load scenes on a machine with less VRAM to prevent that the VRAM gets flooded and the scene is not loadable.
This option is especially important for people who want to reuse scenes created one or two years ago in earlier plugin builds.
Recreating just the OctaneRender information of a scene is less trouble than to have to reload all poses applied morphs etc that were done with DAZ Studio in order to build the same scene from scratch.
Sometimes it is difficult to understand why features are there because there is not a detailed manual explaining OcDS specific features.
But in this case there is a guide who explains the
use of the AUTO, DUF, MAN switch.

Side Note:
General Request:
Please stop asking to remove existing features!
A feature exists because someone in the past asked for it.
The OctaneRender plugin for DAZ Studio is supposed to over ADVANCED features that do not exist in the default DAZ Studio render engines.
This means it is supposed to be more complex and provide solutions for many special cases that only a few users may use.
That is the reason why we paid 450+ $ to use OCDS instead of using a free alternative.
All those tiny little details that may seem not that important on first glance make also a difference in the long run.
The are specific solutions for specific cases that make life easier for those users who know how to use them.
So please keep adding features instead of removing them.

Side Note 2:
If you have a better alternative of resolving the same issue then this would be a different case.
People may not complain if an unnecessarily complicated feature implementation is removed as long as at the same time an alternative way of achieving the same goal is added.
