Hi,

I post this topic upon suggestion from the dev team after I sent them some questions about the drivers and toolkit version that need to be installed.

I post here below what I did last night.
If someone of you in the forum has advices on what I did wrong, please post a reply.

1) The Octane download page links to the CUDA list of drivers version 3.0.
the link of Octane to Nvidia file list
the link of Octane to Nvidia file list
Attached is the list for MacOs.
list of Nvidia files v3.0
list of Nvidia files v3.0
2) Now, the CUDA toolkit and the NPP library download automatically
The toolkit installs itself while the NPP library just unzip but.... where this NPP folder is supposed to be placed?
The GPU computing SDK also downloads with no problems.
On the contrary, in order to download the CULA and the PGI CUDA Fortran I had to go through 2 registrations and login procedures.

3) In the CULA download page there is written that the CUDA toolkit version 3.1 should be installed.
See the attachement.

CULA download page
I asked the dev team about version 3.1 and the answer was that it is not guaranteed to work with the actual Beta of Octane on all systems but the next version will be 3.1 based.
So I think maybe it`s better to download also all the v3.1 files.
Here attached the list of v3.1 files for MacOs.
list of Nvidia files v3.1
list of Nvidia files v3.1
4) So now the list of downloaded stuff looks as in the attached shot.
a screenshot of the downloads
a screenshot of the downloads
5) the PGI CUDA Fortran is a disk image with 2 installers.
On installation a dialogue window tells you that it needs Apple Xcode v. 2,5 or above.
Point 5_NVIDIA-02.jpg
The Apple page says that the XCode is available only to registered developers.
The dev team replied by emeil telling that the code can be found on the installation cd of the OS.
I did not install the Xcode yet.

The dev team, after I sent the sreenshots, tells me that I am downloading the wrong stuff.
But beside the version 3.0 or 3.1 issue, the files are just those listed on the page to which the Octane download page links to.
So...can somebody tell me which are the needed files and which ones are not required?
And where th NPP library should be put?

Thank you very much in advance !

Hi,

You don't need any NPP, fortran, CULA etc...
I don't understand where you got all this...

As explained in the release notes:

The only things that need to be installed in the right order as below on mac os X 10.6 is:

http://developer.nvidia.com/object/cuda ... loads.html

* Nvidia CUDA drivers for mac os x 3.0 (it's one package, at the bottom of the page)
http://developer.download.nvidia.com/co ... _macos.dmg

* Nvidia CUDA toolkit for mac os x 3.0 (also one package, also at the bottom of the page)
http://www.nvidia.com/object/thankyou.h ... cos_32.pkg

* Octane Render 2.2 demo

If you're on OSX 10.5 you also need to install XQuartz, which is linked to on the demo downloads page.

If you get an error regarding GLUT, install Xcode. It comes free with your mac on your OSX installation CD.
When you insert the installation CD in your mac, there will be a Xcode pkg on it that you can install.

Thank you Radiance,
your support is always fast.
From the webpage was not very clear which files had to be installed.
Thank you for the direct links.
I`ll try that.

Thank you Radiance.
Octane is a very nice render indeed.
I still have to get used to the nodes.
Also having a material library is a must that the dev team should take care of as soon as the v1.0 is out.

I just have a few questions regarding pricing before purchase:
You said the price is going to double with the commercial v1.0 release and that purchasing now will get us a discount of the v.2 release.
I just was wondering what could be the pricing of v2 and when could we expect the v2 to come out?
99USD for the Beta now plus a discounted v2 will still be a higher price than the full price of v2?
And if yes, approximately how much higher?
I have no urgent need for another renderer now, so... would it be more economic to wait for the v2 release, especially if it will include material libraries and other added features?

Best,

M

Hi,

I can't say when 2.0 will be released but we're still working on finishing v1.0, then comes 1.1, 1.2 etc, so we're talking a long time.
Also, a material db is not far off ;)
I'd take advantage of the current 99 euro deal, it will dissapear soon, and last you a while.
We don't have any information yet about v2.0, neither when/what/how nor any pricing.

Radiance,

I`m trying to buy Octane but after I click on the "buy now" button and it takes me to a login screen, it does not accept my username and passw and keeps bringing me back to the login page.
Are the data for this login the same used for the forum or not?

Hey,

You need to register.
eg if you click on buy now,
then choose the octane render license and your OS,
you arrive on a login page where you need to log in with your customer area login.
so if you have never bought before,
you need to click on the register link just below it on that page,
register your profile using your forum username and password and then you're taken to the payment page.
