Thanks for these - this is exactly what I would expect if something like a firewall is blocking C4D from accessing our server.
Everything is pointing towards that (The fact that you can activate the standalone fine and that we haven't got any logs of your plugin trying to activate on our servers).

The only suggestion I can make is to disable the OSX firewall and any other firewall software you have.
What does C4D say in the communication part of the Preferences and does checking for updates work from Help -> Check for Updates... ?

Disabling firewall was one of the first things to do so this option is checked.

In the update it says the it can't connect to the server.

Since C4D cannot connect to it's update servers this definitely means it's not an octane problem.
Something is stopping C4D from connecting to the internet.

Sorry, I can't give any more help than that because I'm not at your computer and don't know what is installed...
You will need to have a think about it yourself and try to find what is blocking C4D from accessing the internet.

I was receiving the exact same error. I realized it was because I unplugged the network cable from the computer and when I plugged it back in, I put it in the other port. After struggling with it for a while I figured it had to be something with the network so I swapped ports and now it works fine again. Hope this helps!
