Feature Request: Assign Imager by Object or Material
Moderators: ChrisHekman, aoktar
I don't know if the Octane architecture would allow this, but it would be very effective to assign imagers by objects or materials. For much of my work, DL can work fine, but when I need path tracing, it is rarely for the whole screen. Sometimes it's often just a small portion. To be able to make that particular object as path traced while the rest of the shot was DL would really increase render throughput.

Is it fast? Oh, yeah!

hi,
I think you intend "assign kernel by object or material", right?
Why don't you use the render region option or the render layer pass with the desired kernel ?

Thanks, I'll look into that. I'm fairly new to Octane, so I'm still learning about what it can do (as well as best practices). Do you have a link, perhaps?

Propably this is most fantastic request for Octane. I think that's hardest thing on universe, to run different kernels for different objects/materials. Imagine that still couldn't figured per objects ray switchs. Running two or more kernels at same time propably would spend lot of resources and computation power. Will make everythings is more complicated in the Engine.
PT can be fast as DL if you set it properly. See tutorials section in this forum. There is some videos to explain parameters and optimisations. Also see manual but tutorials are better.
And take a look for incoming version. There is not any change like this but will be some powerful additions.

Octane 3 looks great! When can I get it?

That presentation that Aoktar liked to says free and open alpha starting in June 2015, so I don't think any word that has so far been given will likely be the case in the end...
