Hi all,

I am reading a lot about GPU RAM limitations versus the regular RAM in the PC. My question is- how can I determine how much memory my .obj will take into Octane? I have an .obj file which takes up 85MB disk space but once loaded into Octane I can see that 254MB of graphic memory is used.

Thanks a lot for the help.

under file/device manager you can se a graphic of how your vram is being used, in my experience if the obj file is 85Mb usually the mesh is way under that figure, so I guess in your case the rest are textures, and actually textures are something easy to optimize and can save you a lot of vram.

as it depends on your mesh's topology and other factors it's not a costant.
there's no way to say much much mb of vram is taken per mb of OBJ file.

you just need to experiment with your scenes to get a feeling for it.

Sorry for my delay, guys, I just got my Internet back.

Thank you very much for your answers. I guess I will have to experiment and see what's what.

Cheers.
