Is there any way to create spotlights using emissive materials or any other solution? I think there's a way to use templates with the emissive materials that direct the light but I forget how this is done.

IES lights would be your easiest solution since you don't have to create any obstacles for the light rays to bounce off/through.

Thanks for the links. I read the thread but it sounds incredibly complicated. I'll give it a try and see if I can master creating a spotlight. I wish there was an instant spotlight setting in OcDS like there is in iRAY.

It's looks complicated but if you play with the IES generator (link at the bottom), you'll see that it's not hard to get the results you want.
Hi,
IES light are surely the best option, but here you can find a simple geometry spotlight setup:
It is basically an open truncated cone with the top face emitting inside: You can change the Y scale for laser beam effect or change the X and Z simultaneously for different effects. Note that there is a cube-fog nested inside, maybe you will need to adapt the scale independently from the spotlight. Be aware that the camera must be always outside the cube-fog, otherwise the fog stops to work.
It's my first DAZ scene that I share so be patient, I hope to have zipped all the necessary parts, let me know if it works, please
Happy rendering,
ciao beppe

I've done the geometry method as well, i dunno why but for some reason I just find it fun lol

Thanks for sharing this spotlight. When I try to merge it with my scene DS reports that:bepeg4d wrote:Hi,

/data/auto_adapted/Cylinder3_65/geometry_47cc2421_ebbc_ee41_cbfe_0b30d9ee542c/Cylinder3.dsf
is missing. Not sure if this is a DS or user preset but I don't seem to have it.

I apologize, it's my total ignorance about DAZ
Please, could you try this and tell me if now is all in place? ciao beppe

Thanks so much. It seems fine. The only problem is that I've set up the light ok and it renders fine in the viewport except when I try rendering animation. The emissive light doesn't show up in the rendered animation images. Very strange behaviour because the light shows up in the viewport when I render a still. Any reason for this?bepeg4d wrote:I apologize, it's my total ignorance about DAZ

mmm, I have to investigate, but I need some time
Good to know that at least it works for static renders
