Can't really comment on the losing material definitions but if you get into a situation when the NGE gets stuck off screen you can reload the window layout using the Window / Workspace / Select Layout option. This helps when it happens to me.

My workstation is offline.
Can you post a screenshot of your ocds preferences tab?
There were actually three toggles in past versions
- ignore ocds info on next scene load
- ignore user ocds materials when loading duf presets
- automatic material updates after content loads
Are you working with scenes you created from scratch or are you working on an older scene created with previous plugin versions?

That did re load, is this the work flow? Or is there a way to have the plug in simply remember, no biggy either way as it works with a few clicks now

Try checking that on.bpzen wrote:

.
This normally causes to load all materials when you merge scenes.
Maybe it also has an effect when you load scenes...

You can also try toggleing the 3rd little octane icon in the main toolbar. It can say "MAN", "AUTO" or "DUF". You want it to say "DUF".
MAN is manual and gives the behaviour you see. I usually have it like that, because loading the octane mats took a long time on 1.2 and I frequently click the wrong file
