So I've just started using Octane 3 with C4D.

So far - amazing!

However, I've found a seriously frustrating issue with displacement. Indeed, the only reason I waited until v3 of Octane was because you could finally use procedural noise as displacement instead of images!

You can project and transform bump maps using the settings inside the Octane noise shader instead of doing it using material tag. BUT you cant seem to do the same with the Octane noise shader in Displacement.. why is this??? I know you can use C4D native noise but it doesn't have the transform and project options like you have in Octane noise. How am I supposed to map my displacement in the same way as I have on my bump??

Some enlightenment would be seriously appreciated!

Cheers guys!
Luke.

In renderer, displacement is very limited to imagetexture and not support any connection to transform/projection. We have to wait for 3.0

Ok so I've just had to sit and think about how the hell I'm going to get my displacement the way I want it.

If I want my displacement to be look like the native C4d displacement calculated using procedural noise, do I have to bake the noise to an texture image file and then use that in the octane displacement texture file input?

The material converter is DEFINITELY not doing this - unbelievably frustrating!

Pretty shocking it has taken until v3 for displacement to be able to use noise - How on earth could anyone survive before v3 !??

Cheers!

Luke.

1- That's not under my responsibility! I wish that more than you or others, but i'm not developping the renderer.
2- You can use some c4d shaders in displacement node. They will be converted to images to make it working.

Thanks Aorkta, but this doesn't resolve my issue... from his tutorial, displacement should be easy... and it is - just not for my object! Please see my recent post on what I'm experiencing.

Thanks.
