When I go into the Infochannels Kernel in the Modo plugin and select Z-depth, I can set the Z-depth Max to basically any value which gives me the results I need.

However, when using render passes, the settings inside that dialog box, I can't go over 1 as my max, which just renders out a white frame. Is it a glitch that it can't be raised above 1, or is it just something that's maybe been overlooked? I could render out the Z-depth separately of course, but I'd like to have it in my EXR with the rest of the passes.

Thanks in advance.

Okay, well it appears the workaround is to change the Z-depth to what you need in the Infochannels Kernel, then don't touch the one in the render pass dialog, and it outputs fine. If you touch the one in the render pass dialog, it'll reset to 1 or less, and you have to fix it again in the Infochannels Kernel.

This should probably be addressed, unless it's like that for a reason I'm unaware of.

Glad to hear, I was having trouble with this the other day too.

Can always just use the Modo render, thats what I did. Its actually faster... 4k depth map crystal clear in about 8 seconds on 3930k.

I get a lot of noticeable banding with my Octane depth pass renders, do you find Modo's to be significantly better?

I haven't noticed it being "better" but it is way faster. What image type are you saving it as? When you are going from just black to white it will just come down to the bit depth. So like an 8 bit file will have more banding than a 16.
