WIP UPDATE - 6/04/15

Finally starting to texture. I've decided I'll have to render the earth separately and then comp it in. The project is just too massive now and my comp can't handle it. Having to wait 2min. for the LV to update is killing my productivity.

Just about done! I've got two versions, one of them is an upside down version. Which feels more interesting to you? And which one makes sense given this image takes place in space?

Still looking for feedback! I'm getting ready to do my final renders. A few more decals and some other minor details, then i'll be rendering out cube maps and uploading to the competition, hopefully next week. Would love to hear your thoughts on the two latest renders! Thanks!

Hi dotcommer,
just my two cents:
looking back to the clay version, the black material is killing all the details and you are losing a lot of depth.
I would expect more sun light to come in with nice shadows and maybe some artificial lights, not only monitors. Then you could do a multilight animation fading out all the different sources
Anyway, beautiful scene so far ;)

Thanks Beppe, I've been struggling with that black color of the interior. The actual Cupola is all black on the inside and I'm trying to be fairly accurate to the real thing. It may be how I'm making my material that's absorbing more light than it should.

Did you have a preference for one orientation over the other?

Hi,
I prefer the normal orientation, there are so many details to look at and the scene is already unusual as it is ;)
Have you already rendered a full cubic version?

I have not. But I will be doing that very soon. Unfortunately, I have no way to view it once I render it! hahah. So that'll be interesting. If you have a gearVR headset and want to try it out for me, let me know! Hoping to start rendering cube maps by tuesday.
