Is there a way to disable the filtering for opacity maps?
I work with vegetation a lot and it really slows down rendering when I use textures with an opacity maps. Most Evermotion collections use opacity maps.
VRay, Mentalray and so on got this small feature and really spped up render times there.

I agree.
Octane slows down a lot with opacity maps.

I noticed that Redshift use some sort of sprite material for leaves. I wonder if this is a better solution for leaves.
