baking the displacement is the best idea for reallistic result ... but the bump/normal advantage is to keep the mesh at a low level and save memory and render time...
bump is a very handy stuff, wich should be used even for bricks wall imo.

Well, they spent five days and consultation on how to generate a good bump on a diffuse material and still no solution
.
GeorgoSK, you said that Radiance was little time to address this kind of consultation that was easy to get good results, and not see them
.
I closed the subject with two conclusions:
1-Octane has a poor development in the subject Bump diffuse materials
.
2-I think he should inform Radiance taking into account for future versions, improvements in this area
.

Hi,
I don't understand what you mean. Bump on diffuse works like a charm here.
You're obviously doing something wrong.
why don't you send me a posted zipped archive with your model and i'll bump map it for you.

...hum if you want more pronounced effect of course you should make your material little specular and high roughness. I also think that on pure diffuse bump map is not very convincing. It depends on the distance you are from the object and the effect you look for... When I want to go further I switch to normal map, it works very well in Octane IMO
Here mate, try with this normal, you should get better results, also the original texture is kind of low quality. I've done it with nvidia's free normal plugin for photoshop from your bump texture.

All yout tricks are nice but... imagine that we don't want a trick or a normal map, only be able to use bump mapping in a convincing way.
if we can't it means that there is a problem !!

I'll have a look at the office tommorow as i'm currently sick and i need to get some rest.
Anyways, it's probably something you're doing wrong, a lot of people here use normal mapping and they don't complain.
