I like this ;) how much polys did it generate... ?
Hi,

It was 160k triangles, but could be done with much less. I kept some small details(imperfections on the bricks) which could be better done with some bump map.

Here's with diffuse map applied.

I don't undestand if you trasform on you app. the displace map in surface or if your image is a result of bump map.

Ok, I did some test, I've also noticed that normal bump on a diffuse material is "lower" than in a glossy one, so I've done some test with a normal map I've done.
I thought that It might have something to do with glossy materials being more reflective and thus being more noticeable the bump, so I tested it with a glossy almost flat material (I know it is not the same as a diffuse as Radiance has explained a few times)
Also as you can see the normal map is giving fireflies because its value it's too high (1) but if I lower its value, fireflies do go away, but the bump in the diffuse material go away also.

Could you please rephrase your question... ? This isn't english so I didn't really get it....are you asking on the difference of using displace map as modifier of geometry in native app compared to simply using a bump map in Octane... ?

I used displace modifier in 3ds max to bake displacement into geometry. No bump maps were used on brick walls. Hope it helps.:)

Just to chime in on baked displacement: I have a GTS 250 with 1GB of Ram and loading a 1-million polygon mesh did not use up much ram at all.

I took a sculpt of a creature we're making here at work (which I can't post. NDA.), ran Decimation Master on him in Zbrush, and kicked that out as a high-res OBJ. That came into Octane just fine and produced amazing results! Now if only the textures and UVs were completed, and we'd have a fully-textured creature in Octane. The render looked really really nice too...

And my graphics card had plenty of memory to handle that. If you're worried about baking displacement and creating gigantic OBJ files, just take those in Zbrush or Polygon Cruncher if you have it and reduce the polycount. Decimation Master in ZB does an amazing job of retaining detail.

GeorgoSK course, before you started this post, I was searching the site post on the subject Bump ;) .
Then I invested a couple of hours of testing and got no good results ;) .
After all this is that I decided to consult the forum :? .
In the post in Castilian, do the tests I recommended, I did not have good results  .
The proposals in this post on "bake" I sincerely do not understand  ... .
The issue is that this thread is already 3 days and so far nobody has been able to make a simple cube with Difusse material, textured with the texture of bricks, with a well done Bump  .
I should think then? :o
Come on, please, it's just a cube, I do not know, someone knows how to do it? :?: .
N1k, thanks for the effort ;) .
Kubo, a teacher, both in Castilian and Spanish, too bad that even the results are not expected.
I keep hoping that someone then show that it is possible :) .
Bye

i'm agree with you CJD2, the bump is not really convincing, even with highly contrasted pictures.
it work well for very small imperfections/details...

Hi,

Baking displacement is not complicated thing to do. I see you are using blender, so here's quick tut how you can do it.

Hope it helps.

P.S. Using only bump map for brick walls never gives satisfying results. For bicks displacement is a must:) for me at least.
