The Ray Epsilon does not fix the problem at all. It weirdly shifts the shadow area but leaves a lit section behind.

Using a higher resolution sphere does make the artifacts smaller (obviously), but for an HD 1080p render the sphere would need maybe 100,000 triangles for the artifacts to become small enough not to be a problem. Seems "a little" excessive, especially considering graphics card RAM limitations.

I know this is beta software, and I'm perfectly fine with some bugs as long as they will eventually be sorted out. Since Mental Ray and 3Delight don't have this problem (these are the ones I've tried) there is obviously a way to deal with the issue on the renderer side.

Try to use a HDR-environment, with that it works on low polys...

Thanks face.
Most of my stuff is pretty high poly anyway, and the issue mainly seems to appear on diffuse materials. So it's not a huge deal, just something that could use fixing. But I'm very surprised that Modo shows the same behavior. It's been around for a very long time now

You see that on glossy materials too. When the roughness is at max.

Here a workflow video for PointClouds.
You need 4 parameters to work.
PointPosition, Size, Shape and Orientation.
Have added it to the downloadthread too.

Hi guys,

There is no solution to this problem.
In real life there are no vertices and interpolated normals.

Try rendering a propper scene instead of little low-poly balls instead.
Also, sunlight is very parallel, so it's the only lightsource that shows this artifact very clearly.

btw, users have managed to get the artifact to dissapear compeltely by setting rayepsilon to 0.
but you will get light leaks and other artifacts on real scenes.

I followed these exact steps, but the only thing that appears in Octane is the Emitter sphere, none of the particles. :(

Using Softimage 2010 64 Bit with Windows 7. Maybe they changed some code for 2011?

Sorry, have uploaded the wrong file.
I don´t like to handle 3 Addons with the same files in it ;)
The new one is on the old place...

It woooooorks, yeah! Thank you face!

P.S.: Does Softimage have the most awesome Octane plugin? I'm not following the other plugins, but seeing ICE inside of Octane makes me think your plugin beats them all.
