I am now dubbing myself "MasterNoob" as I can't seem to get the simplest results

Actually this is more of a C4D thing but can anyone assist with how to get a sidewall bump map correct on a tire?

I am using the same texture on both similar sized wheels and getting a very different result.

In this first pic The texture is in the bump channel and although it is not really correct it is at least showing up on the sidewall of the tire. You can also see the tire wheel combo is built using an inner tire and a tread component.

However removing the tread feature for closer viewing even when using the same texture on the inner tire of the combo the texture is over-sized and skewed across the tire rather than around the sidewall.

Any help for young masternoob would be appreciated

These are my settings which are exactly the same for both tires using the texture in the bump map channel of each

Looks like a 'Projection' issue. Try 'Cylindrical' for the tread and "Flat' for the sidewall. Whatever, it doesn't fit a UV map.

Thanks, flat is not working on the sidewall here is a scene file if you want to try it http://metalruin.com/tire-scene.zip

Yes to a degree :) I was really hoping to get him to send me the scene so I could look at it and see what he did, but I am still waiting for a reply. I am still known as MasterNoob in small circles 8-)

Yes, you need decent (if not very good) uvs already set before applying such texture. If you are lucky some of the pre-built projections may work for you as well, though this is rarely the case. And yes, this is more of a general C4D question. You would have got the same results even if you didnt use Octane.
