Hello Paul,
I have a quick question:
I am trying network rendering but it does not seem to work (please see pic)...
the network monitor shows the slave as unavailable, is it possible that build 2.16 (Rhino) does not like to play with 2.20 (octane standalone)
thanks
Andreas

Hi Paul,
Just a quick request - would it be possible to add an extra option for setting the focal distance?
At the moment there is "Auto Focus" and a discrete number, but this means that it's difficult to control with animations that have varying depth fields. Could we have an option to "Set focal distance from document camera" which just takes the length of the vector (camPosition - camTarget)?
Regards,
Cam

Hi Andreas - as per the "Slave" version info at the start of this thread - you need to use 2.16 slave with the plugin release 2.16.0.*.the network monitor shows the slave as unavailable, is it possible that build 2.16 (Rhino) does not like to play with 2.20 (octane standalone)
Hi Cam - this is possible to implement - but I'm not sure if you would always want the focus distance set from Rhino or not if auto-focus is off. I doubt too many ppl manually set the Octane focus distance anyway - so I will see if this can be done in the next release.Just a quick request - would it be possible to add an extra option for setting the focal distance?

Paul - I think it's necessary to have all three options (AF, set from Octane, set from Rhino) - they are all useful in different situations. For shots/macro with high DOF it's very useful to be able to set it numerically!face_off wrote:Hi Cam - this is possible to implement - but I'm not sure if you would always want the focus distance set from Rhino or not if auto-focus is off. sorry, I overread itNetwork Rendering
For Network Rendering, you must use the Octane slave release 2.16 available from the Development Build Releases subforum.

I have refreshed the installers at the top of this thread with:
2.20.0.29
- Any embedded texturemap files found when importing an ORBX will now be extracted into the LiveDb texturemap folder
- Added a warning when rendering material thumbnail previews if the current renderer is not set to OctaneRender
- Compiled with Octane 2.20 (see Octane Standalone for details)
- Added Tooltips to the Octane pins for all nodes in the Setup and Material trees
- Added Setup tree menu option to sync the Octane focal depth to the distance between the Rhino camera position and target
- Fixed potential Rhino crash when editing colors in the color chooser
- Replace Import/Export button on the Material panel with an Import and Export menu
- Added Materials tab menu options to Copy Material To Clipboard and Paste Material From Clipboard - to allow copy/paste of materials between the plugin and other Octane plugins or Octane Standalone (NOTE: texturemaps embedded in ORBX files will not be copied).

Hello Paul,
is there currently a possibility to run the daemon without "sacrificing" a license? If not will there be a possibility to buy a "octane slave" version?
best

Hi Andreas - I recall that Otoy have published in the forums here that in the long term there will probably be "slave" licenses. But as at today, they are not available - so yes, you need a Standalone licenses to run the slave (you don't need a Rhino plugin license though).is there currently a possibility to run the daemon without "sacrificing" a license? If not will there be a possibility to buy a "octane slave" version?
