What card are you using? Is it so hot that you can't touch it?mustardseedsg wrote:How are you guys managing the heat? My cards get so hot when rendering that it worries me to leave them unattended!

Garytyler: I have two 780s in this case:
http://www.maxexpansion.com/desktop/CUB ... -enclosure
The enclosure already has two internal fans, but when octane is running the heat is crazy. I can't touch the metal plate behind for long. I've actually been wanting to put a third or fourth card in there but the heat and noise has me worried.
I'm also running this over TB from a MBP with 10.9.5

Wow, never seen that case but it looks amazing.mustardseedsg wrote:Garytyler: I have two 780s in this case:

It sounds about right that they would get hot inside that case. My titan z gets really hot for sure. I can't touch it on the backplate for very long but I can touch it. I think there's no great answer here. I look it like, hey, they are GPUs. They are supposed to get hot. My Macbook gets really hot sometimes too, even if I'm just watching a movie. The case definitely adds to the issue but the thing has 8 PCIe slots in it. There's got to be a way to add some ventilation?

garytyler wrote:jose, I saw you are having some problems with crashes when u boot with a Titan Z? Are you using Mavericks? When I upgraded to Yosemite, I was able to install the newer Nvidia drivers and it solved my issues with any crashes I think. I was, however, able to use my Titan Z in Mavericks, but I had a couple crashes and decided it was time to upgrade to try the new drivers.
I am trying to figure out why my Titan Z is booting like this, as 2 cards but only 1 that labeled with the driver. Anyone have a clue?
I install Yosemite 10.10.1 did all the process and finally have my Titan Z running

if you want we can go step by step on till you get the 2 Titan Z.
when I was using mavericks i got the same as you 1 Titan Z and the chip one.

That looks a lot like the signature validation error in Yosemite. Did you follow the instructions here:
http://www.journaldulapin.com/2014/12/0 ... -yosemite/
This happened repeatedly for me when I upgraded an MBA to Yosemite, until I started fresh and followed the steps exactly. I finally got it working and it's amazing to see octane rendering on a MBA, but I decided to stick with Mavericks for my work laptop due to the other software in my workflow having incompatibilities with Ysemite.

That makes sense. Strange that the driver would load for one half of the card and not the other, but some of the info in this link makes it seem possible that this could be it. I'll try following this exactly and see what I get. Thanks.

It appears the terminal command _must_ be executed before modifying the kexts.
