+1
I ordered a Oculus VR gear 25th of september and I was expecting it to come around december.. Well, it´s on it´s way already
I have a test scenes ready..
Question still is, where to focus?
To UE4 engine or wait octane tools?
ORBX support to UE4?
Brigade 3.0?
Or combination of all of these?
Deadline, what I have taken to myself out from a hat, is in may/june 2015, to have a cool 5 min VR animation/demo ready. So, I am not in a hurry, nobody expects me to deliver anything (yet) with VR, but I would just need some clue about the direction where to focus with all this at the moment. UE4 seems like fastest route, but it just won´t deliver what I have in mind.. it neeeeds Octane. There´s no substitute.

Yes, there are plenty of games and demos, but at the moment the quality is pretty low..Jorgensen wrote:what can one use the Oculus VR gear to now?

Hmmmm.
Seems that Octane camera panoramic works fine with SDK2 and Kolor Eyes 1.3 player..
Single render, no other hazzle.
Geewizz.

I really didn´t expect to have a working renders made, within a week from getting my SDK2.
Nice. Lot of testing and tweaking and a proper demo next.

Ristoraven, yes the panoramic works fine… but you're only getting stereo 3d when looking forwards and up and down. This isn't a huge deal cause the immersion is still really good, but technically would be nice to be able to turn sideways and still see things in stereo. In order to achieve that every sample would have to be rendered as if the both left and right eye cameras were oriented in that direction.
We are working on an ORBX viewer for Gear VR, and then the Oculus platform for desktops when that launches. With Lua nodes it is now possible to grab the DK2 service TCP packets stream. We have also tested an internal mode in SA that drives the DSK1, and will revisit that in the 2.1.x cycle.
great news, thanks
can't wait for some testing versions and finally immerge ourself in the interactive OctaneRender beauty
