Hi all,

I can't open the LiveDB to access the material there. It was like that a month ago, it is like that now.
I remember having the same problem more than a year ago but for the life of me I can't remember how it got solved.
I am using 3DS Max 2014 and Octane plugin for 3DS Max 1.55b. My Internet connection seems to be working just fine.

Sorry if that has been discussed before but searching for "Can't access to liveDB" gave very vague results.

Thanks for any help.

Hi Julian,

Double check any firewalls you may have on your machine.
Make sure you/3ds max can access live1.refractivesoftware.com on port 443 (https)

Do you get any error messages when trying to view the LiveDB?

Hi FooZe,

Thank you kindly for your response. The error message is "Can't access to liveDB" in a small dialog box.
I don't have any firewall active nor do I have an Antivirus (these are one of the first things I turned off in my Windows 8.1 Pro).
As for live1.refractivesoftware.com on port 443 (https)- not sure at all what it means, how can I check if me or 3DS Max can access it? Is it done through a web- browser or Command Prompt?

Cheers for the help.
Jules.

Hi,

Ok, sounds good. You would need the above information if you were trying to tweak a firewall.
Go here: https://live1.refractivesoftware.com with your web browser. You should get a message saying forbidden.

Hi,
I followed the link and my Chrome displayed the following message:
"Your connection is not private.
Attackers might be trying to steal your information from live1.refractivesoftware.com (for example, passwords, messages or credit cards)."

There was an "advanced" button under it, once I clicked on it the message expanded to add the following:

"This server could not prove that it is live1.refractivesoftware.com; its security certificate is not trusted by your computer's operating system. This may be caused by a misconfiguration or an attacker intercepting your connection. NET::ERR_CERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID"

It gave me the option to "Proceed to live1.refractivesoftware.com (unsafe)" and once I did it displayed the "Forbidden. You don't have permission to access / on this server."

What does that mean/ prove?

Cheers FooZe.

That error is normal for our server.
This means your machine definitely has access to the LiveDB server.

So either something is blocking 3ds max in particular, or some other strange problem is happening.
You could try clearing your LiveDB cache (found in c:\users\[username]\AppData\Local\OctaneRender\cache).

Well that is strange. After following that URL you gave me I did nothing else but am now able to access the LiveDB, download and assign materials with no problem.
Do you think it has something to do with my following the link, and clicking on "Proceed to live1.refractivesoftware.com (unsafe)" from earlier today?

Cheers FooZe.

No, this shouldn't change the way octane connects, which is separate to the browser. This is not normal behaviour...
Well, at least it's fixed now :)

Can you please try the same thing as the OP? Go to https://live1.refractivesoftware.com in your web browser.
See if it comes up with the same security warning and then tell it to proceed. Then see if you get the forbidden message.
