+1 for this.
Happens with me, in both 2.10 and 2.11.
We can't reproduce the issues here even with the scene from Shakalakapaka. Does it happen with every scene? What are the settings in the animation dialogs? What are the exact steps you are doing to make Octane crash?
This seems to happen with a least three different scenes I have tried, as well as without any scene loaded at all. No settings have been changed at all from default. The steps to make it crash are simply going to the script drop down menu, and selecting day light animation or turn table animation.

Do you have a render target selected? If not, what happens if you have a render target selected? You are working on Windows?

I have just tried both render target selected, and not. Both crash. Working on Windows 7 Prof. Intel i5-4690 @ 3.50, 16GB ram, Evga 780 6GB.

Since we fixed a bunch more more or less annoying issues, we are releasing a small quick-fix update with the following changes since 2.11 (See opening post):
  • Added option to use the native file chooser or the version of our UI toolkit (useful for Linux users that don't use Gnome).
  • Added option "static noise" to the direct lighting and the path tracing kernels, which is disabled by default. When enabled, the noise is static, i.e. doesn't change between frames. Well, currently it still changes a bit, because some parts are still using random sampling, but we will improve it in the future. For now, we want to bring back the possibility to have dynamic noise, i.e. noise that changes every frame.
  • Fixed normals of animated hair.
  • Fixed render restart when render region is disabled while sub-sampling is enabled.
  • Don't apply highlight compression when the image is saved untonemapped.
  • When an .MTL file is loaded an empty map_Ka statement doesn't overwrite the diffuse texture name.
  • Fixed incorrect saving of HDR images at specific resolutions.

I really appreciate how responsive you guys are. Thank you for all your hard work :)

Thanks abstrax, Octane open dialog work fine.
One thing, the render window does not update/reset properly if the render is paused.
I is more cosmetic but still annoying.

Cheers, mib

Then I clicked on the save render button to save the rendered image and I got the Z-depth image instead. Are the two buttons connected now? I was expecting them to be different or is it a bug? Thanks,

Jason
Looks like a bug, we'll fix this in the next release.

edit: actually this isn't a bug we save out what you see in the viewport (or you weren’t displaying the Z-depth pass in the viewport?)

cheers,
Thomas
I tested again and it's working as you said, sorry for the false alarm. I must have had the Z-depth displayed when I saved the image. Thanks again,

Fantastic! Can't wait to see that implemented in the C4D plug-in!
Thanks for listening to your customers. I know a few other companies that could learn from you guys.

This is a now issue on Linux with our gui toolkit. You can work around it by switching to the software viewport in the application preferences.
