That's good to hear.
I will continue with my schedule then. As you can see as a background task I'll continue to test replication in its various forms as this is important to me, although we have the all clear as far as the film goes.
With regards Country Lane. I removed items all the way down to just 4 birch trees before it would render. So somehow it's not coping with Carraras built-in tree objects. I must confess I rarely go here but was tempted to buy those Country Lane and Stoney Creek bundles as they are on offer.
Here is the log file of the reduced scene. To be clear I am perfectly happy with the plug in from the films point of view, just want to give the animation a good testing as soon as I can. This is just shame for me as I bought the scenes to compare Octane vs Carrara on these nature scenes.

OctaneRender for Carrara 2.06.0051 [Test]
I've tried that scene in both 8.1 and 8.5 without a problem on both my Titan and 580. Peek system memory used was around 5.3GB. The scene easily fits into Octane so I don't know why you are getting the 'complex' message which means that the Octane API failed to load the scene. I don't see any errors in the logSciFiFunk wrote: HF Country Lane. open OVP get an error "The scene is too complex and could not be loaded into Octane. Please reduce the complexity of the scene and try again". Carrara is up to 5GB memory (I have an 8GB machine) so fits ok (80% space usage) - although the whole thing is sluggish. It will render in Carrara native, the ovp reads 52/2536/3221 as memory usage.
Please let me know if I can supply any more useful info to solve this.
Steve
Edit: My graphic driver version is 340.52.
Win8/64, I7-4770K (3.5Ghz) 24GB, GTX-980ti (6GB) / GTX-TITAN (6GB)
The only thread I've got to go on is that the scene works when I remove most of the scene. (i.e. left with 4 birch trees).
It's late here, so I have to stop for now. I tried some built in carrara landscape scenes no problem, tried replicating a tree a thousand times, no problem.
I guess in my spare time I can keep trying reduced versions of the Howie scenes. I'm not sure how to further the investigation of this, unless anyone else has wisdom to add.
EDIT do I need to add some more memory (only on 8GB), or increase some workspace somewhere to allow it space to buffer some calculations?

8GB is a bit tight. It depends on what else you are running. What is your graphics card and NVIDIA driver version?

Hmm, 335.23 is the required version according to the Octane minimum requirements. It is crashing in the Octane API so I don't know what else to suggest. I am running 340.52.SciFiFunk wrote:Thanks.
I am running with 2 graphics cards GTX780Ti (3GB) and GTX760 (4GB) so 3GB scenes max. NVIDIA version 335.23
I see 340.52 is available, I'm loathed to upset the system unless this is an essential upgrade.
EDIT: I just booted to an older partition which has NVIDIA version 337.88. I did a fresh install of Carrara 8.1 plus OR4C 51. No problem loading the scene. Hopefully the exception report will give more details...

I have cleared Carrara's cache folder. The system has 16GB RAM a GTX-480 1.5GB and a GTX660Ti 3.0GB this is what happens when I load Howie's scenes into Octane.
The System sits on the loading or compiling screen then it eventually crashes Carrara

Ok, I have reproduced the problem with loading the Country Lane scene. It is very strange. I have two installs of Carrara. A clean install with only the Octane plugin and an install with all the plugins that I own. The scene loads fine in the clean install, it will not load in the install with the additional plugins. Now I am going to have to figure out which one is causing the problem. This may take awhile.

Well done. It's progress with something firm to go on. I'm going back to the modelling then..Sighman wrote:Ok, I have reproduced the problem with loading the Country Lane scene. It is very strange.
