have HDR Light studio. 4.3 installed. (just main plugin) not any of 3ds max plugins?

so what am i doing wrong
Good question! I'm about to head home from work and try everything out. What is the 'right' way to install everything? Anybody?

I do remember reading that you need to restart Poser (if it was running during HDRLS install) to get it to work. Maybe?

I have only the main program HDR Light Studio, demo version installed and the octane plugin (latest one)
No other plugins installed.
The restart of poser is necessary because the plugin only detects the HDR Light studio when it initializes itself (at poser startup). I did have a problem with an earlier version where it would not start up if light studio was already running. Quitting it and restarting poser fixed that problem.
If you look at the octaneplugin.log (poser temp folder) you can see if it is detected or not (line 56 in my log)

With the demo you can make a full render, it creates, updates and uses a temp file (low res) to apply the lighting to Octane. That temp file will disappear when you close the plugin. So you cannot save the scene and continue later.

To get a feeling of how the tool works, I suggest trying one of the older tutorials on the HDR studio light website or on Youtube. The latest tutorial focuses on new features and does not go into the basics

Nothing special - Install HDR Light Studio, install latest octane plugin for poser, start Poser, Start plugin and from the Rendertarget node in the setup tab, right click and select Open HDR Light Studio.

Okay, got it installed and it all works great! Well almost all...

...how do you get the LightPaint pointer (reflection/ilum/rim)? Anytime I move to the viewport and select a point in the scene, all I get is what I have selected...autofocus, or material picker, or white balance picker, etc. I never get the finger pointer to lightpaint.

Make sure NONE of the pointer selections are active.
Select reflect/illum/Rim in the rendertarget menu (where you started Light studio from, these have been added in the menu)

The UI for this will change based on feedback

Edit: Paul beat me by a minute.....

Okay, I'm guessing the temporary HDR map in the demo is virtual...cause I can't find it physically present anywhere on my HD when everything is up and running.

But the demo and Paul's integration in Octane works beautifully!

Thanks a million Paul!!

Righclick the Settings tab tree, "Print Save Info", scroll up the python window to the "environment" node, and you can see the full path of the image.
