Hi Karba
It still stops when it almost reaches to the end of the frame render. Now it did after 11 frames
Do you think my Nestor external gpu box can do it or this is software related. I wish I can email the file but it is over 600mb
Thank you
EDIT: it does a lot at night when windows is not used. maybe windows detects inactivity and does something to gpus. Windows is always on though and sleep is disabled
Stops while rendering

I went back to 2.02 it did the same as 2.01 I will try 2.0a
And what does this mean usually "failed to deallocate device memory"
CUDA error 700 on device 0: Error code unknown.
This is what I found on some CUDA sites "700 errors are basically segfaults on the GPU. I use limited sized memories for certain things (handle pointers, exception pointers). If the block size is large, those limited sized memories may be referenced beyond their limit causing a 700 error."
Does 3ds max plugin use stand alone version for rendering. DO I need to downgrade it as well

Hi Karba
So I did some tests
-it stops around 20-40 frames on version 2.01
-rendering stops around 60-70 frames on version 2.02
-it does not stop at all on version 2.0a It works fine
My Pc with 2 titans has 1200W Platinum Corsair and Netstor has 1200W server grade PSU that can handle 4 x 780Tis fine thatch what Netstor told me
As far as temp all GPUs run at 65-70c with good airflow with is really good for a GPU
So maybe it is a bug in octane that started in version 2.01
Thanks
Greg

I hadn't seen this post, I posted a similar (sounds like the same) problem http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=41184 it is really frustrating, sometimes it will render 4 frames before it stops, sometimes it can be hundreds of frames over many hours, but it does keep stopping, always at the very end of a frame. I didn't have this problem before with previous versions. I have a 1,500w power supply and 780s with the extra fans, gpu temps are fine and stable.
Would love to resolve this as I'm currently checking my machine through the night every hour to make sure it hasn't stopped. If it has I just cancel and start the sequence again, but it is incredibly frustrating / exhausting.

That's what i think too. My PSUs are more than enough Corsair 1200W for 2 titans, 1300W EVGA for 2 780 TI Classified, 1600W new EVGA G2 for netstor box with 4 780 TIs. All cards run bellow 70C
So if I render 300 frames I would have to relaunch (cancel render) due to freezing up about 4 times. IT always happens at the end of the frame where green almost at the end
Sometimes after opening octane preview and adjusting textures etc, I start rendering and it would freeze after 2nd frame. So I have to close max and do NOT open octane preview window and go straight to rendering then it wont freeze for 200 frames.
I never had this problem before 1.5 and I doubt my PSUs are weak or temp too high Constant cuda 700 and 715 maybe nvidia bugged drivers as always or other programs get in the way of video card memory and crash it
definitely sounds like the same problem. and we've both quite high end set ups, if it really is a problem of Octane bailing when the gpus get hot (still within an acceptable temperature) then that is a major set back. I'm almost certain that it isn't the problem though, just seems like more of a problem with saving the file or transferring it from the frame buffer to the saved file, or perhaps a problem with allocating the last few samples to a particular card, like they're all bottlenecking trying to decide how to finish the frame.
I agree with you!Rico_uk wrote:definitely sounds like the same problem. and we've both quite high end set ups, if it really is a problem of Octane bailing when the gpus get hot (still within an acceptable temperature) then that is a major set back. the bottom of this page / thread seems to be a similar issue in Standalone. I'll try out the subsampling setting, but I've never changed that so it'd be strange.
It seems like there's a few people having this problem now in latest versions.
