What are the animation features like in the standalone edition?
What's the process of exporting an animation from another 3D package, importing it into the standalone, and then rendering it?
Thanks

I don't have much experience with this, but the best bet is probably to render inside the host application with a plugin. Standalone can read Alembic files, but depending on the host application's Alembic exporter, you may have to jump through lots of hoops to get material groups to show up. I have not had any luck with this using Maya's Pipeline Cache Alembic export (all meshes get assigned to a single materials). But Octane for Maya has its own Alembic export.
The Poser plugin does export animations with materials, but it looks like it needs to do some very complicated things for it to work.

Thanks Fooze - yes, I tried that, but apparently Maya's pipeline-cache export is kind of crap.
I've heard the Octane scene export works well though. But now that v2.0 is out, there isn't as much of a need to export.
