Yea, this was exactly the problem. I was able to fix the issue with your explanation. I was also able to achieve the same result by using an instance of an object with render instances checked. Also it worked when I created a new duplicate material for each duplicate geometry (rather silly way around it but it seemed to work the same).
nice to hear. I made this topic as sticky for a while

Hello,
I haven't tested the Octane plugin for C4D since long time, so here is my first try, and there is some difference between the picture viewer and the live viewer :
- The sphere object who contain the hair is invisible in the Picture viewer, as the hair. Set the Render method to Resend Only Updated Objects don't do anything.
- The hair only render the Guide Lines and not all the hair, is it normal ?
- C4D crash when I click on « DB » button, maybe because I am offline ?
- I can't do anything in the NodeGraph window, even close or move the window ! I have to reduce the C4D window and redisplay it to « activate » the NodeGraph window and use it.
Is the Nodegraph window ok ? Because it don't show any settings in C4D when I click on the nodes.

could you please read the hair part of manual? Even check pls samples first:

Nodeeditor is read-only. DB needs internet connection

Hello!!
First off I want to tell you how completely cool Octane is and Thank you so much for making this available to the C4d community. It's awesome.
I'm using hair to render this project and I really want the Live viewer results...
I read the Hair part of the Manual and it says it's optimized for hair but it isn't giving me the cool gradation I need for this project. The Live Viewer is perfect for what I need. How can I get that to work?
This is the LV Result I want
This is the picture viewer
Any suggestions?
Thanks!!

Hi, thanks for comments. I don't think this is a hair rendering. Looks like a sweep geometry has hair as path and some profile. Isn't?
Hard to say something without seeing the details of objects and materials.

Thanks for the response.
I attached my file where LV renders perfectly.
It's true that it's like a sweep that is the look I'm going for. I'm going for. But it is hair. I think I can figure out how to make what I want with having the hair generate the sweep and render that but I guess what I'm asking you is would I be able to somehow render what I already love in the Live Viewer? Or should I go down the road of figuring out the sweep thing?
Thanks for your time and help.

Hi staygolden,
I have a bad and good news. As you may notified in manual, hair rendering in LV is little tricky. We have some problems to acces hair data on LV(interactive mode). First is, we can't acces data of render output on LV session. That's the reason why is displaying guides on LV. Second is that we can't acces to UV data for hairs. So i'm generating a temporal uv set and this is not similar to render data's uv.
I affraid that makes some confusion. In you scene, link object has not a uv. so you cannot see uv mapped hairs on output. If you use convert "helix" to a sweep, it will assign uv on render output. I hopefuly that would be clear for you.
