I just received an email from OTOY which states that buying the standalone upgrade during the time limited offer entitles us to a free upgrade to our plugin even if it's not released yet. It doesn't list any restrictions to this offer so that's great news. Thanks OTOY!

I really hope that we skip v1.5 of the plugin and go straight to v2. If that means waiting a little longer then so be it because based on past development times a v1.5 release will just delay the move on to v2.linvanchene wrote:/sigh
Also just upgraded to standalone v2.0 and wanted to do a "quick" render with the standalone to celebrate that we finally have displacement.
But I realised there was a reason why I never had the patience to experiment more with the standalone.![]()
All the cool functions the DS plugin has like direct link to photoshop are just not there. I really enjoy the interactive non linear workflow in the plugin where you can still go back and tweak scene and object positions at any time.
From that point of view I would be very happy with a public BETA version of the 2.0 DS plugin that features displacement.
I do not care if it crashes often and still has some issues but at least we can work in a familiar environment.
If that is not possible and any DS version of the plugin is still months away this would be great to know and I might as well invest some time learning how to work with the standalone...

Yeah I'd also be happy with a buggy crashy beta version. I can work with the standalone but I'm growing to like the plugin because it's hassle exporting everything....linvanchene wrote: From that point of view I would be very happy with a public BETA version of the 2.0 DS plugin that features displacement.

Concerning 3rd party plugin upgrades:
Yay!
http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic. ... 78#p188250For a limited time, users who upgrade to OctaneRender™ 2 can also upgrade an existing plugin license (first-party or third-party) at no additional cost to make use of an available OctaneRender™ 2 plugin or receive a voucher towards the 2.0 plugin when it’s available...
This means the user must have had a previous v1.x Standalone license and the v1.x plugin license
Yay!

Hi,
Just to be clear : I have two plugins (Max and DS), if I upgrade to 2.0 + MAX, do I have a "voucher" for DS when it comes out ?
thanks

not sure but I don't think so : for 99EU You get Standalone & one plugin' =) so next one is probably going to be for full price (unless something changed since I've read info 'bout pricing =)itou31 wrote:Hi,

I think its crazy that we are so far behind with our plugin and 2.0 is out and I'll probably never be able to use it. I'm going to upgrade anyway but something needs to be done about the state of the Daz plugin...
The only reason I'm updating is because I don't even trust we will have a functional stable version of the plugin prior a 2.0 release(cause where is 1.5? where is a version that supports old materials? Why do I have to lose a year worth of materials I've worked on?). The way things have been working 1.5 will just be skipped altogether. and our dev hasn't even chimed in yet.
I just forked over another $140 as a gamble...hoping one day I'll actually be able to take advantage of 2.0. I'm still using the old DS plugin from last year because the current one doesn't support my old materials...

Unfortunately t_3 doesn't seem to learn from his mistakes and has gone completely quiet again. It's just a matter of time until people start bashing him again. As far as I remember he said that he's preparing the 1.5 version of the plugin, which will also mean the end of the beta stage. With that in mind, going beyond beta means there has to be a complete manual available, which at this stage is virtually non-existent and that doesn't bode too well.
As for the material compatibility, t_3 said that he had to rewrite most of the code (apparently partly inherited from another programmer) prior to v1.2 and that caused the incompatibility. Myself, I wouldn't be too concerned with the compatibility with future plugins.

So 1.5 and 2.0 will be released close to each other and when they are done. I hope that it is ready before too long.t_3 wrote:this means maxwell works since the 1.54 octane api release, which is available for 5 days. and since the daz plugin is still in transition from 1.2x to 1.5x/2.0x it will work as soon these version are released. they'll come both at around the same time... when they are ready.jasongalterio wrote:What does that even mean?
It does work right now? It doesn't work?
If it doesn't work, when is it going to work?
