Hi
Question that is not octane related
I have a problem where my old computer with gtx 560 Ti has 3 times better viewport performance especially time slider on my 3ds max 2014 SP5 than my new one with gtx titan.
Does anyone have this problem?
I have Vista Ultimate

Thank you

Greg

it's probably caused by the fact that GPU has not enough juice left to feed Your monitor & system, when You Yu put it under load. The best would be to use both cards: one for monitor & the other for rendering =) then You'll have the best experience possible =)

+1 Tom

This is my current configuration :

I'm using 1 TGX 560 Ti for the viewport and 1 Titan for previewing ( +1 EVGA Titan Black Superclocked next Wednesday, hehe ), then both for rendering. Everything works perfectly !

Hi All,

I have been playing with the demo version for the last few days.
Tonight I purchased.

My problem is that when using the licenced version at the same resolution and settings as the demo the licenced version is causing very bad lag / viewport freeze.

I then downloaded the 1.2 version of standalone and max plugin to try and keep versions the same as the demo. Same settings as the demo causes same lag as the newest version.

Any ideas?
How can the demo be so responsive and interactive and the licenced version barely run or become unusable?

i7, 16GB ram, and 780Ti and SSD, Windows 7 pro.

Get to the preferences & look at cuda devices, there is a tick box named 'priority'. change that & look if it makes any difference.

What CPU You're runing? does it have iGPU inside? if so, hook monitor on it =) & You'll not have to think 'bout lag anymore =)

I appreciate your quick response. I will check CPU, though, the suggestion of igpu for monitors is a dodgey work around and not required when running the demo.
How does the demo perform so much better?

I'm not so sure why demo is performing differently, as I haven't tried using it for years (maybe other could answer).

As for monitor in the motherboard connection feeded by iGPU there's nothing bad (as far as I know) & beacause there's technologies like Virtu, the GPU kicks in when needed and it doesn't matter where Your GPU is connected (no difference as far as I know).

Though majority here are using multiple GPUs so that's - once You get bigger scenes into vRAM or start playing with higher resolutions You'll be looking to get extra space in GPU's - by hooking monitor outside GPU You'll not only gain responsiveness, but also few hundred megabytes of vRAM.
