hi!

the 1.2 update moved the livedb cache database to a new location and also the stored data is in another format; normally the installer also copies a prefilled cache database with all the materials available @ around the time the installer was built, so it shouldn't be empty.

one thing you could try is to delete the OctaneRender_livedb.oczdb file in the C:\Users\*Profile*\OctaneRender\Data folder, and run the full installer once again; note: the full installer now also always contains the latest plugin version (the update installer is only needed for subsequent updates)

what you also may try is to just update manually by clicking the "update now" button in the preferences tab.

pls let me know if and what of these worked...

For what it's worth, after suggesting the same thing to him the other day, I clicked Update LiveDB, and all of my Live DB mats disappeared too. The update flickered at the bottom (status bar), but didn't download anything. I rendered a scene anyway, and attempting to save the image to png-8 format (my default), caused a crash to desktop. Got busy, but when I just reopened Daz about five minutes ago, it just repopulated the LiveDB on it's own. I never re-installed anything and didn't tell it to update anything, so I wonder if maybe the LiveDB server wasn't having a temporary issue of some sort?

I don't think this is a bug but I have noticed the default skin color from DAZ textures for Genesis 2 seems to render by default a lot darker than previous versions. These are Michael 6 and Victoria 6 default skins, DAZ Octane default settings. They look a lot darker in DAZ Octane than in 3Delight or Luxrender. I don't remember having this problem in previous versions.

No. On the Preferences tab, texture settings I have "use RGB" checked for both Diffuse and Specular. I tried unchecking them but it didn't make a difference.

While I'm unsure if this is a bug, (and rarely use any default mats regardless), for purposes of perhaps illustrating SimonWM's point better:

"use RGB" is active for diffuse (and specular though irrelevant in this test).

I simply Loaded Victoria6 default, added a hair, and setup my screen to show the settings, and they are clearly not as linked as the tooltip indicates.

Basic 3delight render (again, technically irrelevant, but the settings are included to show that nothing was touched)

The default Daz Studio viewport view (solely for reference, as well)
DSViewport.jpg
And finally, what the OctaneRender plugin applies as default (View is within the NGE)
OcDsSettings.jpg
Note that while I have "use RGB" active, this value clearly does not match the input of "Diffuse" in DS surfaces tab. (Nor any other rgb value present, though not all are shown. I verified). Also, from my purely subjective standpoint, it almost looks as if the plugin is attempting to match the Viewport version, not really anything in the surfaces tab. Again, not that I mind, or use any default materials "as is" anyway, but I figured that perhaps visuals would assist if it is indeed a bug of some kind, or otherwise unintentional.

Thank you, hope T3 can improve on this. Would be nice if by default the figures don't look so dark. Right now they all look as if they had been in a tanning salon.

Yeah there's something seriously weird going on with that field. When I apply materials to the main body, the diffuse RGB of the nail material changes to something a lot darker, even though it's a different material!?

@all: regarding the "use rgb" switch - this is defenitely a bug, as the colors should match (when used). should be no problem to find and correct with the 1.5 update...

Tried plugin v1.2x today for a bit longer and must sadly admin it's still very, very buggy.

Just a few things I came accross (apart from a few DAZ freezes and a crash), which I'm not sure were mentioned before:

1. When you load a scene and try clicking on something before all initial Octane tasks finish, the mouse cursor disappears and doesn't come back. DAZ needs to be restarted.

2. Sometimes the viewport doesn't scale automatically to match the camera when loading a scene (changing the aspect ratio is render settings resets the viewport).

3. Occasionally when rendering reaches the desired amount of samples all buttons in the viewport grey out and render can't even be saved in any way. I remember pressing "Final" at the beginning and a dialog box showing up with a message: "Mesh cound not be combined because scaled mesh lights exist" (which is probably another bug since I don't remember scaling any lights at all - in fact there was only one mesh emitter which I didn't scale), which I ignored. Don't know it is connected in any way.

4. Sometimes when turning off the viewport using "final" rendering the dialogue box "do you want to end the final rendering" pops up almost entirely outside of the screen and cannot be fetched in any way.

Hopefully some of these issues have been fixed already, but seems there's still a long way to go before this plugin is truly reliable.
