Jim-
Tonight I was looking for clay render mode with the plug-in and had no luck finding it. Is there a clay render mode for plug-in?
OctaneRender™ for Blender 1.50 - 4.3 beta Win [OBSOLETE]
Thank you Saramary. I was sure that it was in there somewhere and I was missing it.Saramary wrote:Hi Ephdot,
You can use the material override function.

Very helpful to create masks too !Hi Ephdot,
You can use the material override function.
@Jimstar : Hi, It is easy to parent an object (typically a sphere with normals Inside for fog/Scattering Medium) Inside Octane Standalone using ascendent links and a Position node shared by the camera and the sphere, but is there a way to extract transform data from the camera of an Alembic node ?

Below, just to remember, how to parent the sphere to a regular camera :

You have to register the server again. Be warned it can take several attempts to do so. Or at least it did for me.tomas_p wrote:Waiting for image and nothing else
I must return to 2 versions backward.

I'm working with a new scene and a strange bug appeared again (previously described here by ROUBAL): I couldn't get my alembic file from a couple of first tries. Finally I got the .abc file after I made these changes in render settings:
- Changed full output path to local path
- Changed filetype from [OpenEXR] to [PNG, 8 bit, RGB]
- Choose only one video card to render
@aLeXXtoR :
When it happens, instead of doing all that, make sure that Octane server is active before exporting the alembic file : Octane server is unstable and sometimes closes by itself. Sometimes it is on the opposite difficult toshut it down ! If the server is not active, the black png images are generated (because it is done by Blender), but the alembic file is not !

@Jimstar : Hi, there is really a big problem with Octane server : it still crashes at any time, and sometimes it refuses to shut down when clicking on the tray icone. Sometimes just passing the mouse pointer over the tray ico kills the server and sometimes many click don't ! But the major problem is that I can't export alembic files. If there is no fix soon, I will have to switch back to version for 2.69.
Each time I try to export, I get a window pop up from Windows 7 saying that Octane as stopped. The server shuts down soon after I click to acknowledge the pop up window.
I spent all the day and a big part of my last night trying to export a scene with 1000 frames, but I cant even get 3 before a server crash.
I am going to try with shorter sequences. Is there a limit for the frames number in alembic file ?
EDIT : I tried with a sequence of 100 frames. This time it rendered 100 black images, and the server closed at the last without building the alembic file ! I have wasted my week end day and night on this thing and got nothing...
Please, do something. I am sure that you are busy on preparing
the next generation plugin for Octane 2.0, but this last 1.5 version doesn't work.
An other thing : The alembic file seems to be built at the end of the process. If a crash occurs before the end, no alembic file is created. Would it be possible to write the alembic file after each frame ? Or would it slow down too much the process on big scenes ? I don't know if it is better to get something after longer time or nothing at all when it crashes...
