Hello,
I also have a plug-in for 3ds max and I'd like to export a model from revit to 3ds max using OCS or ORBX format that can be reload. Because imported dwg/fbx models looks very bad especially on small details.
I would also like to export the model in 3ds max using ORBX with octane materials for use as a proxy in revit. Will octane be working in families and will it be able to recognize the revit 2015 texture maps?

... so if at all possible, I would recommend using Revit 2014 if you can. If Revit 2014 is not an option, pls send me a sample scene which demonstrates the issue you are having with Revit 2012/13 and I will look into it.

Paul
Thanks for the quick reply. I will try to get 2014 installed this week - all our current live (real) projects are on 2013 at present, so I need to get the office upgraded when I can...

I'm still having a lot of problems with materials - some come in blank - they show up as white, and are not selectable. It appears that this may be connected to the XML errors I've advised you of.

I'll see if I can send you a scene.

I PMed you a Revit model. I am finding that in one case (the Main Model), some incorrect geometry shows up. In all cases some materials don't work, but I can usually change them in Revit to another material and then get it to work. It's a bit of a slow-down to have to debug materials that work fine in Revit but don't translate to Octane.

Hopefully the model will give you enough to look at.

Thanks,
Tim

I think the problems are now all worked out. I have deleted the material defaults that were causing problems, and the model and materials are all moving into Octane without a problem. I'm getting good results.

Thanks for the great support!

Hi Tim - I just went through all the "Default" material XML files you sent me - and the filenames were corrupt which caused the XML exception you were getting. I just double checked the latest build (from this thread), and Save as Default is working as expected, and even when you save with a blank filename it's working correctly. So I suspect there was an issue with an earlier build of the plugin, where "Save as Default" was not working as it should.

But every thing looks good in the current version.

I have refreshed the installers at the top of this thread with:

1.53.1.6
- Compiled against Octane 1.53.1
- Fixed memory leak causing "Out of Memory" errors on long running renders
- Revit 2012 support discontinued

1.52.0.5
- Fixed issue where Viewport could not be opened from a 3d Perspective view
- Fixed error when clicking "Refresh" on the Viewport toolbar

1.52.0.4
- The Revit transparency amount is now used for the Octane opacity when converting Revit materials to Octane.
- Added option to export to ORBX (in addition to OCS)
- Modifications to enable a Revit 2015 version of the plugin

Hi Paul,

I´m experiencing several issues with 1.53.1.6:
- Customized materials load incorrectly - dimensions and positions, and this is cricial for the Revit workflow, since the textures are representations of real placement of floor and wall finishes;
- RPCs proxies shows tumbled 90 degrees, and I can't position, no matter what I put under transform values;
- The general apearance of the renderings are awful, the same scenes were amazingly great using the 360 - I think this is related to the texture conversion;
- Photometric web lights inside families are not converted, show as dull spheres;
- Several other issues too;

I'm also experiencing issues with the Max plugin - after load a FBX scene from Revit, the Octane cannot render any materials on it - using the iRay or about any other engine, the scene is rendered without issues. I will report this to the specific Max plugin thread.

I was after a practical solution to Revit project renderings, but unfortunately the Octane approach are proving very time consuming. I need to address these issues as soon as possible.

How to correct the position of the tumbled proxies?

Thank you.

What are "customized" materials pls?
- RPCs proxies shows tumbled 90 degrees, and I can't position, no matter what I put under transform values;
Have you tried the suggested rotations in the manual? http://render.otoy.com/manuals/Revit/?page_id=449
- The general apearance of the renderings are awful, the same scenes were amazingly great using the 360 - I think this is related to the texture conversion;
What is 360 pls? Can you give me an example where the scale is wrong? Could you send me a sample scene pls? As per all the release notes at http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=37775 Octane inverted the scale of textures, so you need to "Reconver from Revit" if you load an Octane 1.20 scene into Octane 1.21 onwards.
- Photometric web lights inside families are not converted, show as dull spheres;
If you would like the plugin to support these lights, pls send me a sample using using these lights.
