Hi,

I'm trying to use a texture as a smartphone screen. Can't get it to work though. It doesn't matter if I use a texture or a Black Body.

Here's what I do.

Create a Diffuse material as na override for modo materia. I add an Octane BlackBody/Texture emmision node to the material. Then I add a texture node for the Emmision.
Aaaand nothing changes in the scene.

Here are my settings:

I get nothing (to see the offect I've turned down the environment lighting to 0.1):

What is pretty weird is that if I turn off the Octane ovverride in modo I can see the screen texture (working as a diffuse layer) - If I turn the override back on I get a black screen.

Hi. Try turning the power on the emission node up.

Also, try plugging the image node into the diffuse pin of the diffuse node.

I just had a chance to try this....

1) No, you don't need anything plugged into the Diffuse channel of the Diffuse Material
2) You node layout worked well for me - so not sure what it going on (I only needed a power of 2 to get a good result).
3) Make sure the phone screen has UV coords. Check the Modo Event Log for any Octane scene load errors.

Hey Paul,

thanks for answering my thread so soon. I did not respond the whole weekend because I have my scene files at work and I'll test out your way tommorow morning.

I think there must be smth strange with my scene, because when I've set up a completely new scene with the same node configuration - it worked instantly with no special tweaking. Though it was on a flat plane mesh but it did work.

Anyways, I'll come back tommorow and report how it went. Thanks again

Hey again,

funny thing. I can't reopen my scene with the modo plugin.
The log says this:

I've tried clearing all the texture from my scene and also I've cleared the graphic card memory and still the scene won't load. Would you care to take a look?

Does it work for you at all via modo plugin?

The log says this:
Try downloading GPU-Z : http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/23 ... -z-v0-7-7/

It will show your graphic card memory in real-time. You can also try to turn down the OpenGL view to a smaller texture size. Could also be another program "stealing" the memory. GPU-Z can help you locate that problem.

I downloaded that scene, and it renders nicely for me. Total scene VRAM requirement is 630MB, which is quite small. Total polys are 3.7 million, which is no problem. What hardware, video card and nvidia drivers are you running pls? If your graphics card has issues - powering off your PC and restarting can sometimes get things started again. If you are running 2 cards, make sure SLI is off.

Regarding the emission - there is a glass cover over the phone, so I can't get to the surface that is emitting the screen image. But at a guess "szklo" is the glass - and the Octane Override for it has been corrupted - so delete and recreate that override and set the "Reflection" for the resulting Specular material to about 0.2.

I'm guessing "ekran" is the emitter. You need to load a image name into the Filename channel of the Octane RGB Image, an also click the Texture Locator node and select the image in the Texture Locator Properties so it picks up the correct projection. This will be better handled in the next release, which will automatically build the nodes to handle an emission based on the texturemap in the Modo material. I set to emission power to 20000.

Hey Zay,

thanks for the tips. I've actually tried many things concerned the cards memory - thought that was the issue.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/674 ... ne_001.jpg

I'm nost sure how much from the cards 1GB memory is effectively available to Octane&modo but GPU-Z shows there's 599MB used, so in theory that would leave another 400MB free.
I've tried erasing all of the textures from my scene and reopening it in Octane, still no luck.
No idead what could have happened since Friday causing this :?:

Hello again Paul. Thanks for your test on the scene. I think there was smth wrong with my graphic driver, I've just reinstalled it with a "clean" install (335.23) and the scene loaded fine! I'll try to recreate the screen emmiter the way you described.
You were right about the materials - the "ekran" is the emmiter and the "szklo" is the glass cover.

Thanks again, everything is looking good now
