Is an image not faster, than a proecdural, that has to be calculated each time ... or are they same seed and can cache?

That said, I love the idea of having all kinds of nodes. Could also be a complex node, that takes a script to generate its output, but I don't know enough abnout shaders and CUDA and how the hardware works to really have an opinion here.

Images are faster, but come with a precious memory overhead and cannot be changed interactively or be keyframed.

That´s correct, but the plugins can also create a blank new image texture like the LUA one and write in its buffer.

Not bothered about the memory overhead really, more bothered about the facts that procedurals are genearated, regardless of UV, and also that (to my knowledge) lua is not used in the plugins.

It's a mute point, as we have been told there will be no more procedurals coming in this round of updates.
