i don't know where this light comes from and how to shut it down,

i want a spot light to brighten just a small part of my scene and i want everything else to be black. how can i do that?

yes right, plugin need a light source. If you are not creating and sky object or daylight, it will create a environment with gray texture. Last versions have a command as Octane dialog->File->Edit in Standalone. This is for opening the scene in Octane Standalone. This maybe usefull to see structure of exported scene
